"How can I help you?" The clerk asked. He wondered if the clerk lived close by.
"Have you seen this girl?" Kyle asked and flashed his badge then pulled a picture out. The man took the picture of Stacy from Kyle to get a closer look.
"No, Sir I haven't. You know she came out this way?" The man asked.
"Her car is parked on the side of the building." Kyle stated calmly.
"Yeah, I own this business, and I tried to call the police Wednesday about getting the car off my lot. I figured someone ran out of gas and hiked to find some, because we have only one pump that doesn't open until six o'clock a.m. I thought that is why they tucked it on the side. I wasn't sure if anyone was coming back for it. Because of the storms my calls haven't been able to get through until today. Are you going to take it out of here?" The man asked.
"Right now, it is a crime scene, so it isn't going anywhere." Kyle answered.
"What? Nobody has been around it at all since it showed up, how could there have been a crime?" The man said obviously surprised.
"Do you have camera footage I can look at." Kyle asked hopeful.
"No man, I haven't used those in a long time. The ones outside are disconnected because I was just saving money, they are pretty much old props. I live behind the store down the road so I would hear if someone was breaking into my store. What happened?"
"That is what I am trying to find out. The owner of the car's name is Stacy, she is my daughter. She has been missing since Tuesday night and I am trying to find her. You didn't hear or see another vehicle?" Kyle said with a catch in his voice.
"No, the store blocks my view from that side, but I didn't even see headlights so they car had to come in during a time I was sleep between twelve and six in the morning."
"OK. There is going to be a team to add yellow tape and check everything out before they tow the car away. Nobody is to go near it since it is under investigation."
"No problem. I hope you find your daughter. I have a little girl about your daughter's age. I'd kill someone if anything happened to her. I won't even let her date yet." The station owner replied.
"I understand completely." Kyle replied. He often had the same tug of war in his own head.
"Well, if you hear or learn of anything, please contact me." The owner took Kyle's extended card and nodded his head.
With tears in his eyes, Kyle walked to Stacy's car. He didn't know how to feel rage, paranoid, or in pain, but he was trying not to feel panic and fear. We wanted to know where Stacy was and what happened. His Criminal Investigator side kicked with the ferocity of a bear looking for its baby. Kyle looked around and took pictures of everything before he touched anything.
After getting all the pictures he needed, Kyle retrieved Stacy's phone from her car. It was dead. Kyle searched in Stacy's purse and found charger. Ran to his truck and plugged it in to get a charge. He didn't wait for the bars to fill before he dialed in the number to check her messages, which was something he checked sporadically. But only since she started going out with friends and modeling in front of men.
Kyle hoped some communication was going to lead him to where she went. It was the only thing he could do while he waited for the police to show. It was difficult to listen to the messages because his heart was so emotional. Kyle had to be careful not to erase them.
The loving messages left from his family and friends filled him with pride. There were a bunch of messages from him and Alicia separately. He listened to Alicia's but skipped his. He could barely see through the blur of tears after he heard his wife send out words of perfect love to her daughter.
