Part 1

The school bell rings, signalling the end of the school day. Everyone closes their books and gets up before the teacher even stops talking. The teacher sighs and closes her book. I grab my bag and follow my friends out of the room.
Students are running through the corridors, in a hurry to get home. I feel someone tap me on the back and I turn around. "Angela.", I say, recognising her as my best friend, "What's up?".
"Elena, what do you want to do during the weekend? I'm bored. Do you want to come over to my house?", she asks, excited.
"Slow down, Angela. Right now, I want to go home.", I say, getting into the bus.
She climbs into the bus behind me and we find a seat at the back.
Outside it is bright and sunny. Students are walking home from school and people are walking their dogs.
The bus stops and Angela gets down. She lives in a nice house with her parents and little brother. Her family is quite different from mine.
The bus stops in front of a big, old house and I get out of the bus. I live with my foster family in an old house my foster parents got from their parents. The house is technically big but there are so many people living in it, it feels quite small.
Opening the door to my house, I am immediately greeted with my foster siblings running around, shouting at each other. My 7 year old sister, Sophie, is the first to notice me and she grabs my hand, tugging me into the house. "Elena, come on. Play with us.", Sophie screams, excited.
Dropping my bag on the floor, I pull my hand from Sophie's grip. "Not now, Sophie. After some time, okay?", I say.
She shrugs, "Okay.".
She runs away, screaming. As the oldest out of all my siblings, it gets somewhat annoying at times. The second oldest is Jane, who's 13 years old, so it's only a two year age gap. I'm closer to her but it's still a little boring so I spend most of my time either hanging out with Angela or drawing.
I walk up to the room I share with Jane. I push my books to the side of my desk and pull out my chair. Sitting down, I open my drawer to take out my sketchbook when I notice a piece of paper under my sketchbook. I pull it out. It's a child's drawing of a being with two wings, one black and one white. I must have drawn it years ago and forgotten about it.
"Elena. Can you play with me?", my 7 year old brother, Jake, calls from downstairs, distracting me from my thoughts.
I put the paper back inside and go down. If I don't play with them now, they're never gonna leave me alone.
I play with my siblings for an hour and then study for another hour.
After studying, my mom calls us for dinner. I put my books away and sit down at the dining table.
Dinner in this house usually involves the twins throwing food at each other and our parents, Anne and Mark, screaming at them. Sophie and Jake, the twins, moved in around 10 years after I did.
After dinner, I go back up to my room which I share with Jane. Jake and Sophie share a room and Michael and Scott, the 12 and 10 year old brothers, share another. Jane is already in our room, asleep. I get into bed as well.
As I fall asleep, I think of the child's drawing.
