The name is Ava Burns, I am 2o years old and I am on my way to live with my only living relative in Sitka, Alaska. Life is fucking tough. But, Ava, You're just 2o, you're so right. I got home from working my third job of the day, to my boyfriend balls deep in our neighbor, only to find out she is also pregnant with his child. I knew he was a scumbag but, we've been together since we were 15, I lived with him the last two years of high school, after his parents took me in from a shitty foster home. I didn't even know I had an Aunt but, thank you ancestry, I'm glad I jumped on that bandwagon. Anyway, I don't have any place to stay, let alone anywhere to go. I worked early mornings at a diner, afternoons at the library, and end my nights teaching a dance fitness class. All three jobs understood my situation and allowed me to quit abruptly, no questions asked, thank god for good people.
Here I am on a boat or yacht, I'm not sure, its big and nice though, ( uh that's what she said ) heading to the island. Oh, did I not fucking mention that Sitka, Alaska can only be accessed by boat or plane? No, oh, well good, I didn't know either. I haven't really been able to wrap my head around the fact that just 48 hours ago my life was completely different.
After walking in on Eric and HOE-sica (Jessica for short), I kicked them both out, maybe a few things were broken in the process, maybe not but, the first thing I remembered was the information about my Aunt Shauna. After about thirty minutes, I was on the phone with the sweetest woman Ive ever spoken too. I told her who my mom was and she knew right away who I was. I can't even believe she understood me at all because I was a sobbing mess, she gave me her address, and what happened next was just a blur.
The horn on the boat caused me to jump back to reality and I look up and see this beautiful island approaching, I take in a deep breath and try to mentally prepare myself for this next chapter of my life.
I'm walking off the pier and I don't even know who I am looking for. Looking through the crowd of people I see a woman walking towards me. A beautiful brunette with dark curly hair, just like mine, she also has stunning light blue grey eyes again, just like mine. She has to be in her early thirties, my god, She is a beautiful woman. A foot a way from each other she asks "are you Ava Burns" smiling I reply "Yes, I am" she wraps her arms around me and gives me the best hug I didn't even know I needed. Gripping my upper arms she holds me back, getting a nice good view of me and says " you're absolutely beautiful. I can't wait to show you some photos of the family, you resemble us all so much, lets go!" she pivots on her heel, pulling me with her we make our way to the coolest jeep wrangler without doors or roof, so cool. Shauna points out some of her favorite places and restaurants as we make our way to her home. Getting on the highway she tells me she owns of the islands best bed and breakfasts. I'm not even surprised. I can already tell I'm going to really like this lady.
The drive has been so peaceful, we are following the coast to the right of us, the water is beautiful, the weather is too. Slowing down Shauna takes a left hand turn off the highway. Pulling up a gravel drive I notice a big sign that reads "Burn's B&B". There are trees on both sides of the driveway with so many flowers and berry bushes looks fake. Making our way up the gravel road we come to an open into a horseshoe driveway and pull up to the most beautiful house I had ever laid my eyes on. It was two story French Creole style home with a wrap around porch on both levels. The landscape was immaculate and when we pulled up a young man, probably around my age came out and greeted Shauna. Grabbing the keys from her he told me he would grab my bags and place them in my room for me. A little stunned, I smiled and told him thank you. Grabbing my hand Shauna began pulling me towards the front door of the house, fuck it, it was a mini mansion in my eyes. The next eight hours were a whirlwind.
