From far that I remember, it was spring when I left Guinea Conakry March 27,2014. My home country.
Now let's go back to the beginning of it all......
Today is the due date but I lost all excitement, because I left my second family that are my best friends. Everyone is ready to go to the airport.
Mom: you haven't stopped crying since morning.... you're not going away forever you that
Me: Mom, I know that, but I also don't know when to return
My brother: she's being emotional
Mom: leave her alone
Dad: hey let's go, I don't want us to be late
My dad is a very punctual person unlike my mom and some of my siblings. One thing my dad always praise me for is the fact that I also am a punctual person
After my dad saying that, my extended family and us went to the airport
So I've been saying lots of stuff already but haven't had the opportunity to introduce myself....
Oumou is my name. I was 15 when we left Guinea and it's been 5 years now. I came with the whole family Mashallah ( thank God). U.S is the country that every teen dream to go to but I never imagined to be here. But I discovered that it's not all that it seem. By reading my story you would understand but some of you, would never understand.
Our trip lasted for 2 days and that was the first time traveling by plane. I was very scared when the plane was going up and I still talk about that experience with my sister. It's always funny.
When we finally got here, we stayed at my uncle's place for a week in California. I was so excited to see my cousins that I had seen only one time when I was little and others that I had never seen. It was my first time seeing my uncle as well. We were all happy to see each other. Imagine someone you've never seen but always heard people praise.
After waiting for my uncle and his wife to seems to be forever, they finally shows up.
Uncle:Have you had a good trip?
All: Yes Hamdoullah (hug each)
Hugging is not our thing in Africa but I went along with it and it was nice.
Auntie: you finally got her here! you must be very tired
We all went to their house and we spent a week there with their family. By the time we left, we were starting to get used to each other. I forgot to mention that the wife of my uncle is super nice and very beautiful. youngest cousin, Salima, is around the age as sisters. They got used each other very quick and she even came on holiday the same year.
After spending a little time to get to know each other and at the same time discover the cities, we had to leave. We visited many cities such as: Hollywood; Santa Monica; downtown LA; Disneyland; etc.... We then took the road to Arizona (where we currently live)
Nothing has started yet.
