Background to the main character and other important characters.
Maxen: a 17 year old delinquent whom nobody thinks can and wants to change. This is the main character. But don't be fooled by his tough guy attitude. Known as Max by those closest friends him.
Maria: Calls Maxen (Max). Max's mother and closest to Max. Hides a dark secret from everyone that not even Max knows about.
*Max's father left when he was 9 and hasn't been seen or heard from since*
Bennie: Max's best friend. He's getting more involved with a local gang and is into doing drugs with Max. He picks up that Max wants to change and isn't completely supportive of Max's decision. Max calls him "Bean" sometimes.
Matt: Max's one good friend who's not into drugs or anything bad. Straight A student who helps Max a lot throughout his journey. Very sentimental and sweet.
And last but certainly not least.......
Julia: Max's snobby girlfriend whom everyone hates because of her attitude. She is completely obsessed with Max and stops him from talking to any other females.
