After cleaning up the whole camp mostly, we decide to go chill in the tent for a while. Getting into the warm sleeping bags, trying to recoup. No chance of that though, because Colby points out a bug in the tent and I don't fuck with bugs. I squeal, moving to the furthermost corner yelling
"Colby kill it! Go on Boy Scout fucking kill the fucker!"
Instead he loses it amongst the sleeping bags. And after it all- Jake kills it with the Shrek plushie. We chill out for a while, messing around and hanging out. Those who can try to get some rest. Knowing full well I won't be, I let Colby lay on my lap, my fingers coming through his blue hair. He's relaxed, but I don't know if he completely drifts off. Then there's a spider. We can't catch a break. Corey rips one. There are more sex jokes. Corey tells a crappy scary story which turns out to be a joke anyway. As he does, Colby looks up at me looking over my face. I smile down at him. Despite it all it's a nice moment. Warm. I almost feel safe again. The feeling doesn't last. More sounds- all that jazz. I'm getting used to it. Until more noises freak us out and sends us running to the safety of the car. From there we decide to stay in Jennifer's cabin for the night, since it's probably the safest place. And I like the idea of it, I could use some sleep and a warm, secure place to do it. I'm actually excited for it. Its pissing down raining when we get out of the car to head up the steep stairs to get to the cabin, but I don't care, there's probably a shower and proper plumbing in here too if I needed to wake up properly. It's as I'm imagining this warm shower Sam pauses his search for the keys in his backpack. I groan
"Don't tell me..."
Sam states
"I can't find the keys."
I scoff
"No kidding- check your pockets."
He does, nothing. He back tracks
"I had them at the witch's place, I took them out to show her Jennifer gave us the keys."
Colby asks
"You think you left them there?"
He nods
"Probably."
I suggest
"It's not that far, let's go back there."
Sam states
"It's three AM, she'd be asleep."
I shrug
"And? You'll need to find the key anyway to give back to Jennifer."
The other boys aren't reacting as well as I am to the news, mad at Sam. Especially Corey who tells him when we go back to search the car
"First you lose Colby, and then the keys."
We decide just to head back to the witch's place and call her, see if she picks up. She doesn't. After that attempt of a call, Colby curses
"Shit, dude-"
We all look where he's indicating, to a group of five hooded figures heading to our car. My breath catches, my heart stopping as I tell him
"Lock the car. Lights off."
Corey agrees
"Everyone get down."
The next minute is filled with panicked 'what do we do's. Until Sam and Colby decide Colby should call out to them, which he rolls down the window to do. And the second later, the witch's voice asks
"Sam and Colby?"
Relief fills the car to an overflowing point. They tell her about the keys and she lets us in to have a look. No avail. We're left with an option. Go find a hotel to check into for the night, or stick it out until sunrise. And given that it's already four in the morning and the sun will be up in two hours, we head back to the tent. Collectively, we try to get some sleep, and despite our circumstances- I have a great sleep. Cuddled up with Colby in a sleeping bag. It's oddly enough secure. We sleep right through until around nine in the morning when we pack up and head off back into the city.

Colby drops Corey home first, and then Jake, and then me. Apparently Sam and Colby live on the same floor in an apartment complex. Pulling up the front of my place, Colby and Sam turn around to face me in the backseat.
"Thanks for coming along," Sam begins "you're quite the person to have around in that situation."
I raise an eyebrow
"I don't think so, but thanks Sammy."
Colby motions with a jerk of his head
"I'll walk you to the door."
I clear my throat, reaching for the door handle
"So you should, after freaking me out like that."
He chuckles, and gets out with me. We walk up my driveway in silence until we stop out the front of the door. He informs me
"You didn't answer my question last night."
I smirk, tilting my head
"I'm not going to. It's going to just come naturally if anything."
He groans
"God, you're painful sometimes."
I laugh, reaching up on my tiptoes to kiss his cheek.
"I'll see you soon."
I let myself in and close the door between us without another word, glimpsing back and winking for a second through the gap in the door as I close it. I then dramatically melt against it. There's nothing I'd love to do more right now than reach back out that door and pull him back in here. There's a knock on the door again, as if he read my mind. As soon as I answer it, he steps closer to me and brings me in to kiss him with a hand on my cheek, fingers in my hair. It draws out, the world around us stopping. Slow, and gentle and all-consuming all at once. And if I thought he was good at this four years ago, now he's a professional. My hand rises up over his arm, resting on his bicep. Fingers gripping into the material of his hoodie as if to keep him there. Something tells me this time, I'm not letting go. Before things can progress and I do pull him inside, he takes a step back, and in the same teasing fashion I did winks and says
"See you soon."
He walks back to the car, leaving me standing in my doorway as I attempt to regain my composure.
