There was a rustle in the bush behind us, I turned around and saw three white faces running towards us with their arms long and open. I felt a hand go over my mouth as I tried to scream and another arm go around my waist picking me up and carrying me. I heard Dacuh scream as if he was in pain and I pushed and struggled trying to get out of the persons grip. I was shoved aggressively into the back of a car and driven to a large building in a town
called Cootamundra. I later learned Dacuh was taken to the Kinchela Boys home after we arrived. We had been lined up with a few other children and they told us to forget our old name, forget our aboriginal culture and our families. Then, they renamed us. English names, mine was to be Anna.
