she is human and she is beautiful

when she gets on the bus people sneer, people taunt

they see a mistake in a female's delicate skin

bad haircut, voice too deep to be one of an angel's

pockmarks on the face that is supposed to be honey

that earthen scent doesn't blend with the roses, does it

she is a weed in a garden of pretty flowers

she is not tall, straight, unblemished

but she is human and they cannot see that

the mistake is raw beauty

the kind that pulls you into a dream you don't ever want to wake up from

the haircut is an expression of individuality

the pockmarks are actually clusters of stars

they adorn her face and light it up with youth and love and beauty

that earthen smell is the garden that blooms inside her

and nothing can make her wilt

because those other flowers look the same, smell they same

they will never be like her

because they haven't embraced their thorns yet

she is a girl and a beautiful one at that

her pores may not drip incandescent estrogen

her lips may not have tasted another's

her thoughts may not have grown up like her body

but she is a symphony

through her teeth cascade rivers of incandescent notes, ethereal chords

they may clash

they may sound harsh and amorphous

but they play her song

and that's all that matters

so one day she stands up on the bus

and her words drip unfathomable emotions

DO NOT BE AFRAID

she cries, her words velvet dipped in wine

I MAY NOT BE PRETTY ON THE OUTSIDE

BUT I AM A FUCKING HUMAN THANK YOU VERY MUCH

I CAN DECIDE HOW TO DO MY HAIR

WHETHER TO COAT MY CHEEKS WITH MAKEUP

I AM MYSELF

AND NOTHING YOU DO CAN EVER CHANGE THAT

her tears are not of misery

and no one sneers anymore

because she is brave

she is strong

she is human

and she writes her own lyrics

nikki writing poems in < 10 mins and not editing them = bad idea

also wish i had the courage to stand up and tell people to grow the fuck up
