Strange shadow

It was a calm night, sleeping a peaceful sleep.
Until I woke up and couldn’t move. My mind was aware of everything around me. My body in a deep sleep.
I looked to my doorway, and saw a man, in the hall, staring at me. I couldn’t see the face.
I could only see the hat, and coat he was wearing, similar to a detective’s coat and hat.
I told my mother when I awoke. She said it was a guardian angel.
But if it was a guardian angel... why would I be terrified of it?
