Her brown hair and blue eyes shone upon the glimmering stars, an ill-lit scene hiding beneath the high lights and vast cityscapes. Atop the utter darkness and dying brilliance lied the circular jewel that kept above it all, with a pearlescent gaze dawning over our midnight woes. Descending towards the ground stood the towering skyscrapers; radiating light from the windows which permeated throughout the metal giants, with an isolated bus stop basking amongst the dazzling luminosity. The silence that shrouded us was deafening; but almost tranquil, a stark contrast from my bustling city life. All I could do was stand back and stare, glancing at all the different spotlights overtop the serene and ghostly canvas. Yet with the blinding and blazing spheres that rose within the light-sought wasteland, her piercing stare cut through it all. With her eyes settling on me, her immediate happiness had disappeared and contorted into a harrowing mix of anguish filled emotion. Her mouth had opened but nothing came out, as she struggled to get out a word to the situation that choked us into this exhausted haze.
"I... W-Why does it h-have to be y-you?" Lily coughed out, her shock and pain that had kept as some of the lasting and still distorting countenance.
"I'm s-sorry." The only words that I called back were pitiful. Lily shook her head, the stagnating air throwing us both through a speechless trance. She turned away and stumbled sheepishly towards the bus stop, the crammed transport system stopping at its destination.
"I-I hope so." Lily's voice was nearly a whisper. She entered the bus and it took off, leaving me with the ethereal night sky and dotted streetlights. A light touch brushed against my cheek and streaked towards the ground, putting my hand to my cheek and feeling the tears rolling downwards. A light drizzle started around me, droplets of rain hitting the ground and starting to mask my silent cries. The emotions kept on though, as the chilling rain started to pour and leave only a husk of who I was, left by the ones I loved; but I had betrayed once more.
"I really... I really am sorry." (END)
