'Dad! I told you already, you don't have to drive me. I can get there myself.' Vanessa said, annoyed, to her dad. She was going to the mall with some friends and he was insisting that he take her.

'But Vanessa. Something could happen to you. You could drive into a tree, or a lake, or a post office. I did that once; letters everywhere. My point is, I'm worried about you.' He always does this. He treats her like a little kid and wants to be wherever she goes. Some people call it sweet but Vanessa calls it annoying.

'Im only going to the mall. It's right down the street it'll only take two minutes to get there. I'm 16 and I can do what I want.' She walked out of the apartment and slammed the door behind her, swishing her long, dark brown hair as she turned swiftly into the stairwell.

Vanessa ran down the stairs, jumping the last three. She was already late and if she didn't hurry, her friends would leave without her. She pushed on the door and it swung open, slamming right into someone.

'Oh god, I'm so sorry, are you alright?' Vanessa looked worriedly at the boy she hit. He was small and had green hair. She grabbed his hand and helped him stand up. He stared into her eyes and didn't say anything.

'Im Vanessa.' She said, brushing her hair out of her eyes.

'Ferb' the boy said.

'Ferb? Haven't I seen you before.

'Yes. Yes you have.'

They stared at each other for a long time.

'Ferb! What's the hold up?' A voice shouted. A boy with red hair strolled up to them and looked back and forth from Vanessa and Ferb.

'Ferb.' The boy said sternly. 'We've been waiting for you. Isabella brought the outfit you wanted. Who's this?'

'Isabella?' Vanessa said with a hint of disappointment.

'Your names Isabella too?' The red haired boy asked her.

'No, I'm Vanessa.'

'Vanessa eh. I'm Phineas and you've met my brother Ferb. We're going to put on a magic show in our backyard with a couple of friends. You're welcome to come.' He told her.

'Oh, Phineas. I'd love to but I have plans.'

'Oh well.' He said, shrugging his shoulders. 'Here. Take this in case you change your mind.' Phineas pulled out a flyer from his pocket and handed it to Vanessa.

'Come on Ferb, we better get back. People will be starting to arrive.' He led Ferb away and Vanessa stared after them. Ferb turned his head to look at her; he looked sad to leave.

She shoved the flyer into her pocket and turned around to walk to the mall. As she was about to cross the street, she saw her friends leaving the mall. They were probably going to the ice-cream parlour a few blocks away. She was about to call out and tell them to wait up, but half of her didn't want to. She opened her mouth to speak but closed it. Without meaning to, she put her hand in her pocket and pulled out the flyer. She smoothed it out and studied it. It wasn't that far away and her friends wouldn't miss her. She could just tell them that her dad had grounded her. She read the address again, she knew where it was and it took her hardly any time to get there.

'What am I doing?' She thought to herself. 'Im ditching my friends to go to a kids magic show.'

She arrived at the house and was astounded by the amount of people there. The were people of all ages lined up outside of the backyard.

'Wow' she whispered.

She stood on her tiptoes to see the front of the queue. There was a large boy with a dark top sitting at a desk, probably handing out tickets, and a smaller boy standing next to him, letting people into the yard.

Vanessa walked to the front of the line, hearing murmurs of annoyance from the people queuing, and stood next to the desk where the boy was.

'No skipping the line.' He said with a gruff voice.

'Im a friend of Ferb's.' She told him.

'My apologies miss.' He said as he handed her a ticket. 'My name is Buford and this is Baljeet. He will escort you into the yard.

Vanessa thanked Buford and followed Baljeet into the yard. It was full of people from the town and there was a huge stage standing in front of her, decorated with balloons and ribbons.

'Maybe this wasn't such a bad idea after all.' She thought.

A few minutes passed and the yard was full of people waiting for the show to start. The lights dimmed and Phineas ran onto the stage wearing a silver tux.

'Ladies and gentleman! My name is Phineas and welcome to the best magic show of the year. Our talented magicians will blow your mind with he tricks they are about to perform for you. So without any further ado, let me introduce to you...the mind-boggling Baljeet!'

'Thank you for coming, ladies and gentleman. We hope you enjoyed our magic show. But this is not the end. We have one more act left. Last but certainly not least...my brother Ferb!'

He left the stage and on came Ferb. He clicked his fingers and a boy walked onto the stage carrying a bucket of water. He placed the bucket in front of Ferb and walked off the stage. Music blasted over the sound system and Ferb began to do backflips across the stage. He ran up the wall and disappeared. There was murmurs of confusion from the audience as they looked around to see where he may be. Suddenly, Ferb's head appeared from behind a beam that was holding the stage up. Then, there was a puff of smoke followed by a splash. He had jumped into the bucket. Vanessa thought this was an odd magic trick and waited for Ferb to climb back out, but he didn't. Vanessa felt a tug on the sleeve of her jacket and turned around to see Ferb standing besids her in a tux, with a bunch of roses in his hand. He held them out to her and she took them. Suddenly, the roses turned into lillies and then back to roses. Vanessa bent down and kissed Ferb on the forehead. His cheeks turned bright red and Vanessa giggled.

Phineas walked back onto the stage and thanked everyone for coming.

'If you would kindly follow Buford, he will show you the way out. Have a nice day folks!'

A few minutes passed and it was only Ferb, Vanessa, Phineas and Isabella in the yard.

'What are you going to do with that huge stage? I doubt it will fit in your garage.' Vanessa asked, laughing.

'Well usually, the things we build have a habit of disappearing at the last minute, normally as soon as Candace shows up with mo-' Phineas was cut off by a high pitched scream. 'That'll be Candace now.'

A few seconds later, a girl with orange-y red hair ran into the backyard.

'Oooh, you are soooo busted now. MOM!' The girl screamed. She ran back into the house waving her arms about wildly. Vanessa turned around.

'Well what do you know?! It disappeared.'

Ferb, Phineas and Isabella turned around to see that the stage was no longer there and they all burst out in fits of laughter. Candace returned, dragging along a woman which Vanessa assumed was Candace's mom.

'And what am I supposed to be looking at?' She asked.

Candace's jaw dropped and she trailed back inside the house slowly. 'Never mind.'

'Hi mom.' Phineas said.

'Oh hey kids, have you had fun today?'

'I don't know about you three but today has been the most fun day since summer started.' Ferb said.

Vanessa looked at him and smiled. 'I agree.'
