Chapter XV

His mind was racing with thoughts

The scene earlier was constantly replaying in his head

How the four-year-old daughter he loved so dearly had asked him a single question well on the verge of tears

"Will you kill me?"

And how she then ran off leaving him alone and abandoned in this room

Anne had gone looking for Princess Cadence and Alfred had swiftly left after detecting the master's mood

Klaus smiled sadly

"Will she even come back?" He thought to himself

He was about to get up and leave when suddenly a tiny figure came running in

Cadence was completely out of breath from running, and her attire was now a mess

"Why did this place have to be so huge?!" Cadence thought frustratedly after getting lost on her way back

Klaus had been frozen surprise by her sudden return

[ "Why did you come back?" ]

He said after quickly regaining his composure and putting back on his cold mask

His face was blank and emotionless but Cadence continued to stare deep into his eyes as if she were trying to read what was really going on in there

[ "I-I'm not done with my meal! I was just going to the restroom!" ]

Klaus was surprised by her sudden statement but didn't show it on his face

And so Cadence sat back onto her seat and continued eating

Klaus stared at her for a while, confused at what was going on, before also sitting back down silently

For a few minutes Cadence continued to stuff her face awkwardly before finally putting down her fork abruptly

[ "F-father! Earlier I... I'm sorry for asking such a strange question!" ]

[ "But you said that you never planned on killing me! That's why let's make a promise!" ]

Klaus raised his eyebrow, intrigued at her sudden request

[ "What kind of promise?" ]

[ "Father, you promise that you will never ever hurt me and me! I... I will refer to you as Daddy!" ]

For a minute everything was silent and still as the flushed Cadence stared at Klaus nervously until finally, Klaus burst out in laughter

Cadence was undoubtedly embarrassed but was determined to go through with it

[ "What an interesting suggestion hahaha" ]

"But there's no point, I've already promised that to myself long ago"

[ "I, Klaus Von Huit Armand Romania solemnly swear by my life, to never hurt Cadence Lynn De Blanche Romania for as long as I live" ]

Klaus smiled

[ "Is that enough for you, chibi princess?" ]

Cadence's face turned red from embarrassment as she looked down to the ground and nodded twice

"Y-you didn't have to say it so seriously like that!" She complained in her mind

Anne had been waiting outside the room for quite a while now with a wide smile on her face

Detecting a good timing, she finally entered

[ "Your majesty, it is already quite late" ]

[ "Mm you are right. Chibi princess it's time for you to go back, children shouldn't be up so late otherwise you won't ever grow taller" ]

[ "Hmph! Just you watch, one day I will grow to be as tall as you!" ]

Cadence said angrily completely forgetting his status as emperor

Klaus laughed loudly in amusement

Even Anne couldn't help but giggle at the adorable, puffed out cheek princess

Anne escorted Cadence to the door and opened it for her to leave

Before leaving, Cadence halted her steps and said in a shy voice,

[ "S-see you again Daddy..." ]

With her cheeks bright pink, Cadence rushed out of the room straight after

Klaus was now left alone with a huge grin

For the rest of the night, it seemed that his smile just couldn't go away
