You're already awake by the time your mother calls for you. You quickly pack away all of the papers you'd scattered on your desk in preparation for today. You're still a bit nervous, but you know you're prepared. You'd spend days on this speech and reheard it for just as long. Nothing should go wrong. Being satisfied by the small peptalk you'd just given yourself in hope of calming your nerves, you smile and grab your bag before heading downstairs.
Your parents are in the kitchen making breakfast. Something you have always been happy to wake up to. You appreciate the morning you spend together talking about the nothings of the day.
There was a time when your father had to go to work before with you and your mother. Instead he would be home before any of us. You don't know what made him choose to move his hours forward, but your glad he did.
By the kitchen island you see your best friend Taehyung in the middle of stuffing down a piece of toast. You is so focused that he doesn't even notice you walking up and sitting next to him. He about to take a sip of orange juice when you finally greet him. The shock you caused almost making him choke.
You and your parents, who has kept quiet as they saw your attempt to sneak up on Taehyung, all burst in to laughter while Taehyung eagerly hits his closed fist to his chest while coughing.
"Screw you Jazz!"He complains calling you by your nickname as he angrily study the last piece of the toast in to his frowning mouth. you still remember the reason behind your nickname. You'd just started middle school. It was the time where you began to love dancing. Your father loved jazz music so he would bring you to as many shows he could. There you met a lot of friendly people who loved to dance to the music as well. There was this old lady who showed you jazz hands. It's such a simple move, but you loved it. You always did it whenever you were happy from there on out and people started calling you Jazz hands. It was later shortened to just Jazz.
"Morning to you too, Taehyung" You smile at him mockingly.
Your mother walks over with a plate of toast and egg and places it in front of you. Shortly after you father follows along with a cup of coffee. You thank the both before digging in.
"So, what are your big plans for today?" You father ask warmly as his arms snake around your mother's waist from behind.
She leans in to him comfortably and rubs his hands in front of her. Seeing them like this will never get old to you. If it wasn't because you'd seen it yourself, you would never believe two people could love each other this much.
"I'm signing up for dance today. Jazz forced me to improve my danceskills before prom" Taehyung mumbles in response, pouting at your parents as if to ask them to feel bad for him.
It doesn't work however as they both just smile and you see your father shake his head at him.
"She's just doing you a favour. I've seen you dance. It surprises me that your mom hasn't made you do it before" You mother jokes. Taehyung baffles his hands in the air as a sign of defeat.
His mother used to be a champion in ballet. Your mother loves to bring it up even chance she can get to make fun of Taehyung. You love how casual your parents and Taehyung are around each other. It most likely has something to do with the fact that your father and his mother used to be good friends in high school. You and Taehyung practically grew up together.
"Are you ready for your speech?" You father ask. You almost choke on yourself at the thought of the welcoming speech you'd promised the principle to host today. All the nervousness flodding back like it was never gone.
Having suddenly lost your appetite, you push the plate away and faintly smile at your father. Hoping that the simple gesture will speak more than words.
