Since the boulder sits atop a massive hill, I glanced over my shoulder at the lifeless forest behind me, half-expecting to find another person standing there, preferably Miss Raven over Miss Crow, simply because Miss Crow would have my head on a silver platter and scold me for leaving home too early or reprimand me for not informing anyone about my plans to go on a little adventure and such. We get the picture.
No one was present, however, I did notice a strong vine that seemed like it could bear my weight, judging by its thickness. I couldn't resist the overwhelming urge to leap and swing on it. . . . . . Screw it, I'm gonna do just that!
I focused intently on the vine, causing everything else around me to blur. With each passing second, I could feel the energy building up and the tension increasing in the air. It was as if my heels were equipped with springs, giving me the courage to take a daring leap. As I soared through the air, I reached out and firmly grasped the vine. Surprisingly, the texture of the vine felt reassuring, as if it had made a vow to never let me slip. If anything, I am not like my mother, and I don't plan to be like her either.
It was as if the vine was playing a game with me, swinging me around uncontrollably like it wanted me to get off. But I, Kira Peregrine, do not give up that easily! The vine was clearly not pleased with my presence as I struggled to climb it. Its resistance made it challenging for me to hold on, but I pushed myself with such vigour that I could sense the tension and anticipation building up within me. Unfortunately, my energy started to weaken as I continued my ascent.
