Ares Ashwood was the only other fallen angel after Lucifer Morgenstern. The only other angel with a heart so tained they banished him out of heaven.
So Ares fell. And he hit the ground so hard he lost his memories of what he was supposed to be. Despite that, it didn't last long.
Furthermore Ares built a reputation too terrible, too bloody for anyone to even dare cross his path. He became known for taking what he wanted. For taking what he couldn't have. Perhaps it was ture what they said; Perhaps he was a monster after all.
And so it didn't take long for the members of the circle to take him. He was tortured for endless weeks, just because of the blood in his veins. Just because of a man who was too broken to see that he would be destroying his children lifes as he gave them the angel's blood.
They let him go and from then, Ares was always on the run. Never stayed at a place longer than necessary and never bound with the people around him.
Until he met the Shadowhunters, his new family. Until he met Alec Lightwood, his love. And that time, Ares stayed put. He learned that perhaps he wasn't as much of a monster he thought he was.
However, his luck didn't last long. The clave forced a deal on him. A deal that meant to betray the trust of his family in him. A deal that also meant more pain for him if he didn't accept.
So he agreed.
