The figure on My Hill

There's a hill, just by my house. Its big, green and its my favourite. I call it 'My Hill'. I use it as a sort of 'time alone space'. Its used every day by me - and only me. Although recently, I've seen a tall, scary, blacked out four legged creature. It sits there, on top of my hill at night. I've always thought it was a werewolf, but it never howls at midnight.

My names Lottie. I have a Mum, but she's a widow. My father died about 7 years ago now; we don't speak of him much anymore. When I was younger I went to school, but my mum teaches me now. We moved away when Dad died.

We live in the country, I like it here, except you have to walk across never ending rows of feilds just to get to the market. We don't have a car. Mum says that walking is the way to go in life. I agree.

Last night, I saw that figure again on my Hill. Just sitting on my hill. I can see it from my bedroom window. My mum knows, but she doesn't care much. I do. I like wild animals, but come to think of it, I wouldn't like to meet one! It would be frightening. Those killer eyes, a mouth slobbering tongue, huge sharp white teeth... I definitely wouldn't like to meet one!

But I do like animals - honest! It would be fun to be one though! A polar-bear, or maybe a lion, no, a wolf! I love wolves, maybe that's what sitting on my hill! A wolf that doesn't howl. That's just silly though, isn't it?

I think I have come to a decision. I'll go and meet it myself...

All day I've been waiting for midnight! The times finally come, my mum doesn't know that I'm going to be sneaking out, but I don't care.

I grab my coat and head for the door. Now I'm thinking whether or not this will be a good idea. Going outside in the dark, looking for a wild animal while climbing up a hill. Silly idea really! A lamp would solve one of my problems, but then again; looking for a bunny rabbit would solve another! But I'm looking for a wild animal, so that problem cant be changed!

My boot slowly trod outside, then my other one did the same. I closed the door and lit my lamp, put the matches in my pocket and I'm ready to go!

I'm nearly at the top of the hill and I can see the black figure. As I move closer I can see the animal more clearly. It looks like a lovely white coloured  a wolf, but it cant be - I cant hear it howl at night! Maybe I was right, a wolf that didn't howl! But why not? I stopped. I was about a metre away, but the wolf hadn't noticed me! It was staring at the moon. Maybe it wanted to howl, but it couldn't! I started to move closer, but suddenly it turned its head towards me! Its huge red eyes stared in mine…
