A Script for a play in English Class

Part 1

All: Tandag, the year 1944

(Music)

Juliana: "I just want to be free!"

Ricardo & Angelo: (looks at Juliana) "I love her and I killed her!"

Mariana: (looks at Angelo) "I just loved him! And I-I killed him!"

Joselito: (looks at Mariana) "I killed my child!"

Vicente: "I killed them all!" (Everyone looks at her)

Berlinda: "I, I witnessed it all!" (Everyone rounded her) Noooooooo! (Stretches her hand to the audience)

Berlinda faced the audience

Berlinda: "I just arrived in Tandag, my hometown is nothing compared to this place! I have seen the garrison... and, and, I have also seen the market where traders from different parts of Caraga came to sell and buy! What a bustling place!" wipes sweat "You have no idea how tired the travel we had. (Vicente arrives) oh! I think he is my new boss"

Vicente: "Are you the new girl?"

Berlinda: "Yes señor!" (She curtsied) "Berlinda is the name" she smiled at him but Vicente is unaffected and studied her from head to toe

Vicente: "What a lively girl, are you aware of the work here?"

Berlinda: "Yes" she smiled wryly then she looks at the audience. "I don't have any choice. My family used to be farmers but the Spaniards usurped the land that left us in debt. A friend told me of this place...little did she know that I'll come here." She laughed and then her face turned sad.

Vicente: "Good....." he saw a young man sitting outside their establishment "Ricardo?"

Ricardo: "Yes Señor?"

Vicente: "Can you help her carry her luggage to the underground room?"

Ricardo: "Opo Señor"

Then Vicente left not saying anything

Berlinda: "Hi" she laughed, the shy Ricardo bowed his head

Ricardo: "hi" he then faced the audience "Luckily, Señor Vicente saw me outside the establishment. I was able to enter this place again. Where is she?"

Juliana was fixing her hair she turns her head when she heard movements

Juliana: "Are you my new roommate? Hello! Come!" she smiled at her

Ricardo: still talking to the audience "Here she is, my sweet little angel! Beautiful as the morning sun, refreshing as summer rain" he laid down the luggage. "My dear Juliana!" Juliana came close to them.

Ricardo: "Hi!" Berlinda throw a glance at Ricardo

Berlinda: "Hi, I'm Berlinda" she smiled then Juliana held her arm to lead her in the room.

Juliana: "Did you just arrived?" Berlinda nodded her head

Berlinda: "Can you tell me about our job?" Juliana look at her with gentleness in her face

Juliana: "Of course" they turned their back from Ricardo then Berlinda turned her head

Berlinda: "Thank you for carrying my luggage"

Ricardo: "You-you're welcome"

Juliana: she did not look at Ricardo "Don't forget to close the door when you get out"

Ricardo: "Sure..... Other things I could help you with?" there was no response among the women, he stood there awkwardly "uhhmmm.... Okay. Bye?" he stood there for a few seconds before he left. Juliana led Berlinda on a chair to sit.
