"No! What have you done? You killed them! How could you!" My eyes shoot open as I look around the room to see that I'm in Caroline's room. I turn my head to the side, and see a small figure shaking and whimpering. I turn on the lamp by the night stand to see Caroline tossing and Turing in her sleep.
I had decided to wake her up. "Caroline, wake up." I soda while softly shaking her. She was still sleeping. I shook her harder and began to talk louder, which had successfully woken her up. Her eyes shot open, while her body jolted forward out of the bed. She was breathing heavily while looking around the room.
"Please don't hurt, I'm sorry that I woke you. Just-I'm sorry, I promise I won't wake you next time." It was almost as if I was slapped in the face with her words. She kept on rambling about her being sorry and that she won't have nightmares again.
"Caroline. Your fine, it was just a dream. I'm not mad at you." I sat back down on the bed. "Why would I get mad that you woke me?" My brain knew it was way too early in the morning, but my mouth just kept on going.
"I don't want to talk about it." Mumbling the last part.
"Caroline avoiding the convo isn't going to help. You have to options, you can tell me in the morning or now. But I'd prefer you to tell me in the morning or sometime tomorrow." I said it sternly, but still was gentle with my tone. She nodded, her eyes focused on the sheets, while her finger fumbled with the soft cloth.
I carefully pushed her over to the side, so I could hold her in my arms again. I pulled her close to my chest, and she turned around so her back was facing me. I felt her fingers trace my skin. Smiling, I knew that she was tracing my tattoos. She traced the feather the most.
"I'm guessing that you like my tattoos." I said with a grin on my face. I felt her tense up.
"I'm sorry, I won't do it again." The words rushed out of her mouth.
"Caroline, you've done nothing wrong." I assured her. Closing eyes, I miss her soft fingers warm fingers against my cold skin. "You can keep tracing my tattoos, I don't mind." I felt nothing for a moment, then her warm fingers touched my ice skin once more. I had closed my eyes to fall asleep, until I heard her speak up.
"Can you sing to me again, I mean only if you want to. If you don't I'll understand completely. I can't go to sleep, so I..you know what never mind it's a stup-" I stopped her from finishing her sentence.
"What song would you like me to sing love?" She stayed quiet. My guess is she's think about what song.
"Um. XO by Beyoncé?" It came out as more of a question. I smiled, mentally sighing that I knew the words to that song. Clearing my throat, I began to sing the song that my Caroline had requested.
"Your love is bright as ever
Even in the shadows.
Baby kiss me
Before they turn the lights out.
You heart is glowing
And I'm crashing into you
Baby kiss me
Before they turn the lights out.
Before they turn the lights out.
Baby love me light out.
In the darkest night hour
I'll search through the crowd
Your face is all that I see
I'll give you everything
Before they turn the lights out
Before they turn the lights out
Baby love me lights out.
We don't have forever
Ooh baby daylights wasting
You better kiss me
Before our time has run out
Mmmhh yeah...
Nobody sees what we see
They're just hopelessly gazing, oh
Oh, baby take me, me
Before they turn the lights out
Before our time has run out
Baby love me lights out
In the darkest night hour
I'll search through the crowd
Your face is all that I see
I'll give you everything
Baby love me lights out
Baby love me lights out
You can turn my lights out
I love you like XO
You love me like XO
You kill me boy XO
You love me like XO
In the darkest night hour
I'll search through the crowd
Your face is all that I see
I'll give you everything
Baby love me lights out
Baby love me lights out
You can turn my lights out"
Finally finishing the song, I once again find Caroline sleeping. Her breathing was soft and soothing. I continue to softly hum the song. Caroline was such a sweet girl, along with being beautiful. She had these big green/grey hazel eyes. Her olive skin complemented those beautiful eyes so well. Then her long brown wavy hair, was a frizzy and a little greasy also overgrown, but I overlook her scars. Her imperfections make her even more beautiful.
Soon, I feel sleep overtaking my thoughts. And that last thing I remember saying was "I love you Caroline."
