Callie

It was a free day today so I spent the day playing with my Tamagotchi, doing my homework and baking with mom and Charlie.

"I thought my Tamagotchi died when I woke up. He wasn't moving at all!" I told my mom and brother as I wiped the counter and mom put the brownies in the oven. "Is he dead?" Charlie beamed. "No, you knucklehead. He's not dead." I shot. "Callie..." Mom warned. "Sorry." I said mostly to her. "But yeah, he's alive. I just wasn't able to feed him yesterday." I smiled.

"I don't get the point of those Tamagotchis. Why have a virtual pet when you can have a real one?" Charlie asked. "Ask mom." I said, motioning to our mom. "For the nth time, kids, we're not having any pets." Mom chuckled.

"But mom!" Charlie and I whined. "But nothing. We're all too busy to keep a pet. I'm at work all day and you kids have school. Who'll take care of our pet? And now that you two are taking hockey seriously, will we even have time for one?" Mom explained. Charlie and I sighed in defeat.

We've been asking for a dog or any pet for years now and mom always said no for the same reason. She had a point and it was always valid. Charlie and I don't recall having any pets but mom said we used to have a Jack Russell, but dad kept him so we really haven't much memory of it.

"Speaking of hockey, I'm glad to see you two enjoying." Mom smiled. "Yeah! We really are." I smiled. "Callie was right about having faith in Coach Bombay. I think he'll be our key to our very first win." Charlie said. "Oh mom! If you just saw us practice, you'd see how much better we've gotten!" I beamed. "You all must be fantastic, love." She smiled gently at me.

"Coach Bombay has been a lot kinder to us since the night he came over." I added. "Yeah. It's like we're actually dealing with the real Coach Bombay now." Charlie smiled. "It's like he had an e- epi- funny- fanny- epicenter- epi-" Charlie stuttered as he failed to get the word out. "Epiphany?" Mom smiled. "Yeah!" He beamed. "Never knew your brain could carry such deep words." I laughed. "Hey, I actually like spelling, for your information." Charlie said seriously. "Whatever you say." I laughed.

The oven ding-ed and mom brought out the brownies. Its smell instantly filled the room. "Mmmm! That smells delicious!" Charlie sighed happily. "I can't wait to take a bite!" I grinned. "Let's wait for it to cool down a little before we dig in." Mom smiled as she sliced them up and put them on a plate. Charlie and I nodded knowing they'd be too hot for our liking if we ate them right away.

"So I bumped into Adam Banks last night on my way home." I piped up. "Oh yeah? How did that go?" Mom asked. "Not well, I guess." Charlie said. "Not well!" I beamed as I pointed to my brother who had gotten it right. Charlie and mom chuckled at my sarcastic enthusiasm. "I can't help but think of what he told me though." I admitted.

"What did he say?" Mom asked. "Did he call you something bad? Oh I'm gonna get him good! He's gonna get a taste of my fists now!" Charlie seethed and his wrists balled up. "Charlie..." Mom warned. He loosened up and I laughed. "Nothing bad. I just brought up him being a suck up in kindergarten and he asked if I was ever going to let go of that." I said.

Mom and Charlie looked at me. "Well are you?" Charlie asked. "I mean, there's really no point in being mad at him except that he's a Hawk." He added. "True. I just don't like how he always bullied me behind the teacher's backs then be all mister-nice-guy a minute later." I explained. "I'm sure he's changed, sweetie. Plus, he said sorry and you made amends on the last day of kindergarten." Mom said.

"She's right." Charlie agree. "You can't keep holding a grudge on him forever, Callie." Mom smiled earnestly at me. "Okay, fine. I'll loosen up on him." I sighed. "But he's still a Hawk, so there's that reason to hate him." I pointed out. "Right!" Charlie agreed. "Right... He's still a Hawk." Mom chuckled as she found it amusing.

The brownies finally cooled and we took our time consuming our scrumptious creation. "Now this is a Conway creation." Charlie said with a mouthful. "An extremely delicious one!" I agreed with a mouthful too.
