"Kate?" Glen whispered, his own hand reaching out to take hers and giving it a small squeeze. But it was a failed attempt, anything else they tried, no response came from her. The doctors were still wary and weren't making any promised. She was still in a very critical condition, but if she were to make the next 24 hours her surviving chances would rise.
Catherine had taken Arthur back to KP with a big struggle. Arthur would need his sleep, but he wouldn't return to school, it was two more weeks, but the next three days were going to be three days of official mourning for the country. And Glen wouldn't have let him go to school, either way, it wasn't a place for him to be. Everyone knew Kate now, and their son would be on the receiving end of endless attention, even more than before and questions.
The nurses had managed to convince most of them that they all needed to go home. So Kate's family had taken some of his family back to Kate's. Mark and Danny were offering any available beds as well. Even Catherine and William had offered to let people stay over. the only one not being able to be convinced was Glen.
He simply refused to part from her as she fought for her life. He didn't want to go away, he didn't want to be anywhere but beside her. He didn't know if she could understand him or hear him. But he tried nonetheless. He talked to her throughout the night, even though there wasn't the smallest of reactions from her. The nurses were a continues presence, checking her stats and whatsoever. The machines hadn't gone into any more alarms since the last alarm. It was certainly a relief for Glen as night made way for morning. Light started to filter through the windows, signalling a new day.
It had been 15 hours since the massacre at the museum since the entire ordeal had started. It brought a new number though, another 7 people had died through the night and the number was now 194 confirmed dead. Kate had almost been the eight one of that night to de. Something that had gotten out across the world.
Charles had been right on it though, making sure that nothing else of how she was doing got out. But the fact that her heart had not stopped once but several times during the night was a huge deal for all of them and that along with the fact that she'd slipped almost twice during surgery. She'd died almost five times in total during the night.
"How is she?" William questioned, walking into the room after a night of very little sleep. He held out a cup of coffee to Glen who accepted it readily. He put a small basket with breakfast which Catherine head prepared on the table as well. All of them knew that getting Glen away from her side would be a right nightmare.
"she's been stable throughout the night. But the doctors say not to get our hopes up before she makes it past the 24-hour mark. It's one day at the time." Glen replied the information he knew as William took the chair opposite of him on the other side of Kate.
"She'll pull through, she's strong Glen, she hasn't gone through all she has to just give up like that. She has much to live for." William reassured him as he took his sister's hand in his whilst looking down at her with a brotherly love look in his eyes.
"Arthur was still asleep when I left KP, he slept with us in bed, he didn't want to be alone," William told Glen as he lifted his eyes to look at William questioningly.
"thank you, he'll be more comfortable where he's used to being with you guys. He knows and spends most of the time there, he isn't as used to being with my parents or Kate's grandparents or family. You're more his family than the others." Glen explained, having realised this not too long ago. Arthur just felt more at home with them than with anyone else. They were his uncles and aunties, and at this point, it was important to make him feel as good as he could in this situation. Anything to make this entire ordeal easier on him.
