"What about my baby?" Kate asked them, her hand coming to rest on her lower stomach, flat unlike it had been in the last couple of weeks. "She's gone, sweety," Diana informed her in a motherly tone as Kate nodded her head, her face taunt, not wanting to cry even more. "She?" Kate asked after a moment, looking down at her flat stomach, as Diana cupped her cheek as a mother would. "Yes, a little girl, just as feisty as her mum. I'll take great care of her here, What would you have named her?" Diana asked her as Kate looked to her future husband and son.
They hadn't really discussed any names, she was only 13 weeks pregnant, they thought they'd have enough time. No one had expected for something like this to happen, least of all her. "ethne." Kate finally agreed, little fire in Irish. If her daughter would have been as feisty as her, it would have made sense. And it was a great homage to Glen's country.
"I'll look after her like she's my own granddaughter. We'll always look down at you from up here." Diana reassured her, pointing upwards. "You'll be blessed with another few babies, but first you need to go back and get better to do that," Diana told her, giving her the tiniest of a nudge in the direction of a cold silver like a circle. "We'll be there every step of the way, my daughter," Diana whispered in her ear as she kissed her cheek, before wrapping her arms around Kate. And then she was being sucked into the cold silver like shape.
"She's back." Was the first thing she heard being said around her. Then it was the beeping of machines and she realised that she was back in her own body. Thinking back to her experience, it felt so strange, yet she knew that it had happened for real.
The doctors and nurses, however, were stunned. They were just about to quit, declare her dead when her heart had started to beat again on its own accord. They hadn't even been giving CPR of any kind anymore, ready to give up. It had just gone back to life without them in a way. Her blood pressure was stabilizing better than it had done before. She wasn't out of the woods yet, so had miles to go, she wasn't breathing on her own yet for one thing.
But her heart rate and blood pressure were more stable than it had been since she'd been admitted. No matter what had happened, it was a miracle as they started to clean up. The doctors headed for the curtain and moved them backwards. The many faces waiting and already grieving turned to look at them. They'd all been prepared to go out there and tell them that the person they cared about the most had died.
Yet she was more stable than she had been and she seemed to be fighting. "Is she?" Charles asked the moment they left her room. "No it's a small miracle, we'd just stopped performing CPR or continuing any attempts to bring her back. Just when we were about to declare her." The doctor paused, he was still stunned by what had happened and how it had happened. One moment she was about to be declared dead and the next moment her heart had started to pump on its own again.
"She came back on her own, her heart is beating again." The doctor finally told them as their shoulders sacked in relief. The faces went from relief to stunnedness and shock.
"She's more stable now that she's been since her admittance." The doctor explained to her as he nodded behind him, the room where Kate was situated. "She's special." He added in a doctor, unlike manner. He talked a bit longer with them, explaining what had happened, assuring them that for now, she was stable enough to make it through the night. but that the road was far from being finished. And then they all returned to her room, they all saw what happened the moment Arthur sat down beside her on Glen's lap.
Arthur's hand immediately reached out to cup Kate's cheek. "I love you, mummy, thank you for coming back to me." Arthur had said, thinking it had been quiet but the entire room and all people inside of it had heard about it. And then they all watched as a tear slipped out of Kate's closed eyes down to her pillow on which she laid with her head.
