Chapter 3
Sunday morning, I was updating my book when my mom came in. I'm an amateur writer on a certain website, I wrote mostly mysteries and thrillers. I'm not much of a mushy author. No one knows that I write stories.
"Mace, do you want to come with us?" my mom asked me.
I shut my laptop off, turning around to face her. "Where?" I asked.
"Parker's house. Remember Cole and Chase?" she asked.
"Oh, yeah. I met Cole yesterday at school," I replied.
"That's nice. So, are you coming?"
"Um, no thanks. I'll be fine here," I said.
"Okay, if you say so. By the way, what are you doing?" she asked peeking on my laptop.
I hid my laptop and I pushed her gently away from me. "Mom, it's nothing." She stared suspiciously at me.
"Okay, bye, honey. Take care," she said and gave me a peck on my right cheek.
"Phew, that was close," I sighed.
I resumed with what I have been doing when suddenly, my phone rang. It's just a number, so I ignored it. It rang again but I kept on ignoring it until someone texted me.
'Hey shorty, it's me, Cole. Answer the call.' Sent 9:24 am
My phone rang again and this time I answered it.
"Why are you calling? I told you not to call me shorty," I said, annoyed.
He replied, "It's cute whenever I call you shorty." I felt my cheeks turn red.
"My mom told me that your parents will visit us," he continued.
"Yeah, and so?" I asked.
"I expect you to come here," he added.
"Nope," I replied.
"You're not coming? Why not?" he asked with a low voice.
"Do I have to?" I asked sarcastically.
"But I just want to..." he paused.
"You just want to what?" I asked curiously.
He said, "Never mind." I heard a doorbell in the background. "Wait, I think that's your mom and dad. Bye," he said.
"Bye," I said and I hung up.
I resumed with what I was doing. I was almost finished when suddenly, I felt hungry. So, I went downstairs to grab some snacks. I heard a knock on my door, I opened it and I found out that it was Mason, my 6 year old brother.
"Sis, I'm hungry," he said, tugging on my shirt.
"Go get some sandwiches downstairs," I said and he ran downstairs.
"Be careful Mason!" I shouted.
I finished updating the book so I published it. I hid the laptop in my cabinet and I finished my sandwiches.
"Sis! I can't reach it!" Mason shouted from downstairs.
I went to him and I found him reaching for the jam on the table. I handed it to him as soon as I reached it. Then suddenly, the doorbell rang.
"Mason, open the door, I'll finish this," I said and he handed the bread knife to me.
"Sis! Come here, he's looking for you!" Mason shouted.
"Mason, who's that?" I asked.
"He said he's your friend."
My friend? Who could that be? I walked towards the front door and saw Cole. I dropped the bread knife.
