By the end of 1956, Elvis was a superstar, and he was finding out that fame could snap back. His work meant he barely had time to sleep, and it was impossible to have a private life.

Elvis's career hit new heights in October 1956: the title track of his first film, 'love me tender' had gone gold. And his next movie was already in the pipeline.

On October 11, he began a four-date tour of Texas, starting at the cotton bowl, Dallas, where he managed to reduce the crowd of 26,500 to a screaming mass.

No one could deny now that Elvis had scaled the heady heights of stardom.
