Moon hovered, her silver eyes roving over the Earth as she passes. Unable to face the sun, her skin remained as dark as the abyss that cradles her. Moon looked, she saw. Ages pass, yet she moved the same way, constant and forever. Occasionally, a glance at the sun pulled pity from her heart. He endured alone, a lonely king over his eight kingdoms and territory. A noble of his kingdom, Moon felt his pain as she rotated, watching over the third kingdom. However, it kindled her cool heart.
Life below was lively, quieting down as her light filled the half she travels along. Sun's half awakened and hers gave in to sleep. As she moved, Earth whispered to her, thanking her for her cooling nights. "It's nothing," she said. "I agreed long ago to cool the heat of Sun. I did hit you after all!"
Earth chuckled, "You are right. How are my creations this night? Are they well?"
Moon nearly forgot that, despite creating the life gallivanting along his crust, Earth was unable to see them. Looking down at his mismatched eyes, she smiled. "They rest this night. Some are awake, people with work to do, things on their minds. Some merely prefer the night wind to that of day. I cannot blame them."
"I cannot either. Who would want to miss such a beautiful Moon?" Earth replied lowly. Green and blue eyes met silver.
"Earth, please do not-"
"Why? We have known each other for eons. From the moment you crashed into me, I knew there was something special about you. You make me happy! Do I not do the same for you?" Earth pleaded, searching her glowing eyes for an answer.
"You do make me happy. Sometimes, I want to crash into you again!" she exclaimed, shushing him. "However, I love another. I cannot touch either of you. I will not subject ourselves to that torture. You have your life to think of."
"Damn my life! Please! I will allow you to touch me. They will...we will create new life. Life that might live on us both," Earth pressed. Pinpricks of red lit around him, the people below awakening. Moon watched, horror struck eyes raising to meet his.
"No. You must keep the keep them alive," Moon cried.
"If they are what stands between us, I will do this. I have been selfless for too long!"
Over Earth, he bled out his fiery will. Moon watched. Life dealt itself a horrible blow as rolling fire met it, the black clouds that slowly obscured the view choking what was left. In the aftermath, only a gray, desolate wasteland remained. Gray and blue. Earth became partly blinds in his own rage, his own passionate desire.
Moon, shaking her head, bowed away from him. He reached and reached for her, but Sun kept him captive. Without her oath, without her will to stay near Earth, Moon left. Earth watched as his love became consumed by fire, the Sun holding her as she melted away. Her tears cooled him even as she burnt brighter, the eight kingdoms and one province growing icy and cold.
As temperatures peaked, Moon melted away. Sun, too cold to grow hot again, began his rebirth.
A fiery supernova flashed over their tiny blip of the Milky Way.
Sun destroyed his eight kingdoms and one province in his grief for Moon, a flash of colored memories. Her love had fueled him for ages. Now, he left no more than a desolate, cloud in space.
