Merlin Pov:
I watched as everyone was fighting but one fight caught my sight. Mordred making his was to Arthur with the sword forged in dragons breath, I ran quickly past Gwen as she tried to stop me but by the time she caught up I was already on my horse bolting down the hill. When I reached the bottom I rode through the crowd of men jumping off the horse I ran just in time as Mordred swung his sword at Arthur but it never hit him. I felt it pierce my chest, Mordred froze with shock and so did everyone else I dropped to my knees a tear coming from my eye as Mordred and his army retreated. The king and his men came running to me as I dropped to the ground Gwaine caught me just in time as I fell I was crying badly I looked at Arthur " I will Serve you to the day I die and guess what clotpole I have "I said with half a smile before my face scrunched up in pain "i... I'm s..so Sorry" was all I could say before I let myself be taken.
Arthurs Pov:
One minute I was fighting next minute my loyal servant, my best friend, my brother was standing in front of me with a sword in his chest that was meant for me. I was frozen I couldn't move I watched as Mordred and his army left I dropped my sword as Merlin crashed to his knees just as he's about to hit the ground Gwaine caught him and fell to the ground trying to stop the hard fall. The Knights of the round table were all around him crying as he said his last words to me "I will serve you to the day I die and guess what Clotpole I have" He smiles a bit but I remain frozen tears coming down my face " i... I'm s.. so Sorry" is all he says before he closed his eyes I hear everyone shouting but I just back away falling to the ground crying.
The next few moments were a blur my army was standing there all bowing there heads in respect of our fallen knights but most of my loss. Merlin played a big part in my life and now, well now he's gone but I couldn't process it, I saw Gwen come running down the hill on her horse with Gaius with her as soon as they saw Merlin the both stopped crying on the spot as Gaius grabbed onto the limp body of the boy he raised. Everything was a blur from that moment I remember going to Camelot with all the people looking at us and seeing me with red puffy eyes, I watched as men ran to the family but they all still focused on the limp body on the horse behind me Merlins Body.
The next day there was a funeral for Merlin all the other knights had been burned last night but I remember one wish Merlin made with me months ago and all of a sudden it came back to me.
~FLASHBACK~
"Arthur if I die I want you to know I'm extremely sorry and that when I die I wish to be taken to the Lake of Avalon I wish to lay there," He says quickly before kicking his horse off to join the battle. I couldn't stop to think for a moment I never said I promise but I did in my head.
~FLASHBACK END~
I owe it to him. I watched as we pushed the boat out into the lake were a shine started coming and that's when we saw it the lady of the lake a sorcerer swimming towards the boat before she touched it and said " My love you did not deserve this" She made a bright light and when we looked back she was gone and the boat was burning. After it was all done we all slowly made our way to Camelot where I went and sat on my throne watching as they put a painting of Merlin across from me above everything were he will always be remembered.
