The following morning Caesar and I were requested to see off Tiberius before he was to attend to his duties while I sat around a tent waiting for word of my brother. A few of the slaves roaming through their camp had told me they would look out for the escaped rebels though I had the sinking feeling they were merely keeping tabs on me for Crassus or Caesar. These slaves were a different breed from others I'd ever encountered, they were so loyal to their Dominus' it was as if they felt they were valued.

I sat there looking through some of the paperwork Caesar had left out curious if his wife had sent him any word from Rome yet there was none. The only messages he'd been receiving were from a small child by the looks; Julia. She was stating how much she missed him and how absent the mother seemed to be from the home even in her sickness. The thought broke my heart, this was his daughter.

"Find anything of note?" His voice crept up from behind me.

"Apologies... I shouldn't have looked." I told him as I scurried away from the table moving away from him.

"No, perhaps not, though now your heart and mind can rest easy. Knowing you only share it with a small child, and not another woman." He told me as I smiled softly. "Though I know I will never know that ease... will I?" He questioned me.

"Probably not... Gannicus will always be the first man I've ever loved or let in my heart. You will always share a place there with him. Does that upset you, mighty Caesar?" I asked him cocking my head to the side.

He smiled softly as he began to remove his armor, "Yes. Though, I suppose there will come a time when I no longer have to share you with him." I walked towards him and helped him with the removal.

"Perhaps someday you won't." I laughed softly, "You're back rather soon, I thought Crassus was going to keep you all day, and through the night." I offered.

"He told me to spend what time I have with you... later will be less than desirable for either of us." He told me firmly as I hung his armor up on the stand. "What is that supposed to mean?" I asked him as the worry grew within my voice.

"Jana...I... I told him you would give him a your view and thoughts of Spartacus and his people, in exchange for your brother and your life." He told me. "He saw your defiance as an act of rebellion and--" He stammered as I moved to him placing my hand upon his cheek.

"Gratitude, for speaking up for Agron. I know you two do not see eye to eye though it comforts heart to know you are willing to save him." I spoke softly.

"Come let us not soil the whole day with this, I would see you well taken care of before the night takes mood from us." He smiled to me as I moved away from him. "Is sex all men think about?" I asked him as he shook his head laughing.

"You mistake intent. I meant only that we could talk... like we did back in Sinuessa. I want to regain your trust after that betrayal." He told me as my smile softened. "Trust was never truly lost. I knew sooner or later your people would come for the city and they would be there by your word. I knew that." I told him as I moved away from him sitting on the bed.

"I cannot fault you for being Roman and doing as a general would no less than you can fault me for being a rebellious slave. Come... you wished to talk... I wish to hear about Julia." I told him as he smiled to me before joining me.

"You would love her... She's very brave for her age, climbing things she shouldn't, hiding places we cannot find her... I miss her greatly, she reminds me so much of myself at that age."

"It's hard talking about her, having been from her for so long?" I questioned as he nodded. "Even more so knowing she has been alone with family as her mother is never there... Knowing she is going to be a young woman by the time we return to Rome. I'll have missed out on so much." He told me.
