"Mom!"

"Mom, get up, we're going to be late!"

"Seriously Mom, why aren't you awake?"

The bedroom door swung open and a thirteen year old girl, dressed in her school uniform with her shirt half tucked into her skirt and her jumper on inside out, crashed into the room to see what was taking her mother so long.

Sophie Hargreeves shot up out of bed after feeling the weight of her daughter jumping up and down on the mattress. She rubbed her eyes, and tried to process why her daughter was panicking and looked like she had been dressed by a toddler. Her eyes caught sight of the blaring red numbers on her alarm clock that read 8:42.

"Oh crap! Robin, finish getting dressed and start the car, I will be downstairs in 5 minutes. Vamonos!".

In a record time of six minutes and twenty three seconds, the Hargreeves women were in the car, suitably dressed and brushing Pop Tart crumbs off their clothes.

"Honey I am so sorry, my alarm mustn't have gone off, don't worry, if the roads stay this clear we should make it just in time". Sophie glanced at her daughter and saw her knee uncontrollably shaking, an indication that the girl was anxious about something.

"Hey Robin, look at me", Sophie stroked her daughters cheek as she turned her head to look into her mother's blue eyes.

"It's going to be fine". Robin smiled at her mother and took a deep breath.

"I know, I'm just nervous about track tryouts today, I mean I know I'll do great but I don't want to over do it, you know?". Both women in the car knew that Robin would win her race and make the team, there was no doubt about it, however, both women also knew that there was the slight chance Robin would run a bit too fast and that would open up lots of questions from her peers at St Mary's Middle School.

The older woman smiled, she couldn't believe she was lucky enough to be blessed with such a thoughtful, empathetic daughter. Robin always felt like she was cheating when she ran, but she also knew she had a gift and she wasn't going to waste it.

"It's up to you, you know I'd never push you to use your power. If you want you could push for second, second place still makes the team right?".

Robin huffed.

"I suppose you're right, we'll have to wait and see won't we."

The stylish blue car pulled up into the parking lot of the school, two minutes before the bell was due to ring. Turns out, the traffic was kind to the two women that day.

"Have a great day, I love you, and remember after track Agnes is picking you up to take you to work, I'll see you later honey,". Sophie leaned to shout out of the open window on the passengers side where Robin had rushed out of the car in a fluster.
