"Wow."

It's all I can think to say.

Peter's apartment is amazing.

Huge. Like a mansion. In the sky.

A two-story mansion, in fact. But thirty stories up.

Six bedrooms, he tells me. Seems like a lot.

We'll only need one of them tonight. Or so I hope.

Hey, I made it this far. I think I can close the deal.

Whether it's short-term or long-term remains to be seen.

The décor is surprising.

Old-style, I would call it. Extreme retro.

A curious mix of Neo-Classical and Victorian, with a heavy Gothic influence.

What? I did a semester or two as a design major.

Not a good one. But a few things stuck.

Big fireplace. The real thing. Logs and all. A fire is going.

Marble mantel. Big gilded mirror hanging over it.

Oriental rugs. Heavy wooden table. Huge grandfather clock.

Dark red walls. Oil paintings. Family portraits?

One is of naked nymphs and satyrs in curious poses.

Satyrs — you know, those horny goat-leg guys.

In the living room. Interesting choice.

What does this say about Mr. Peter Sutaf?

A little exciting. I admit it.

But you know where my head is.

Antique vases and urns full of dried flowers. A tapestry of knights hunting a bird-head lion. Woodcuts of weird little monsters eating people. Strange ivory dolls and knick-knacks.

Museum-quality stuff. I know. I've been to museums.

It's impressive. Tasteful. Screams rich, but in an understated way. Classy.

It seems an odd style for Peter.

Old. Fusty. Musty.

I look Peter Sutaf up and down. He is none of those things.

Peter is a young guy. I mean, older than me, yes. Early thirties. At most.

I would have expected his place to be sleek. Modern. Glass and chrome. Black and white. Airy. Contoured. Less antique.

Did he inherit all this old furniture from his grandparents?

It has that family heirloom look.

Except maybe the nymphs and satyrs.

I could swear the satyr in the painting winked at me.

But I am a little tipsy.
