"I'm sorry, (Y/N). He does care. He just won't say it aloud because he's a fucking pussy. And has it already been half a year? Stars, I didn't even realize.." Chara comforted you, rubbing a friendly hand over your back. You let out a giggle that distorted through your tears.
"Thanks, Chara. I think I'm just tired." You yawned, like it was perfectly timed. Chara smiled understandingly. "Plus, the amount of times he's cried in front of me is just shocking. I mean, he acts so distant, but he's really just upset and-"
"Wait," Chara cut you off, and put a hand up to stop you. "You got Sans, as in 'Sans the Skeleton', to cry in front of you?" She said it like it was the craziest thing she'd ever heard.
"i had to tell papyrus that mom went on a business trip. he was too young at the time." He confessed, pressing his forehead to the steering wheel. You put a hand on his shoulder, stroking his back to help comfort him. "he eventually found out when she didn't come back. he cried so much, but he didn't get mad at me. he just missed her. he missed her like i missed her." He clenched his teeth tighter together; his torso trembled through his blue tears. "i've never felt like a more horrible brother." You hushed him, resting another hand on his arm and pulled him into an embrace over the small divider between you two. Sans melted into you, darkening the material on your (f/c) shirt with his sadness. You stayed like that for a while, you just waited for him to calm down as he cried. You held him tighter, and you even felt your soul long for him to forgive himself. He eventually quieted down, relaxed.
"why're ya so nice t' me, huh kiddo?" He half-smiled. It was a question he asked you often, as he never expected such kindness from someone he was so rude to. Your smile returned. It was so assuring.
"Who would I be to be mean to you when you need a friend?" You asked, pulling him into another hug.
You nodded slowly, looking at Chara with a mixture of confusion and curiosity in your eyes.
"Yeah... I mean, he cried a week after getting to know me, then sometimes, after random missions, he'll just break down in front of me. Doesn't he do that to you guys?" You wondered, finally calming down. Chara shook her head furiously, and strayed her gaze from your eyes.
"The only time I've seen him cry was an accident. He was sobbing to his dad a few days after his mom's death, and I was supposed to get them for dinner. Sans wailed at me to go away, and Gaster said that they'd be out soon. But I've never, ever had Sans break down in front of me." She admitted. "He must really trust you, (Y/N)." Your eyes grew wider, and a little flower of hope blossomed inside of you.
"Huh. Well, I still don't want to be near him right now. Is it still okay if I share a bed?" You blushed timidly, feeling like you were barging in. Chara giggled softly, then nodded. You relaxed once you remembered Chara was much more friendly to you than Sans generally was.
"Thanks, Chara." You smiled. Chara grinned a little wider.
"Anytime, (Y/N)."

"Can't sleep, huh?" A voice in the darkness asked. You flinched a little, forgetting it wasn't just Chara and you in the room.
"No, not really." You replied quietly, not wanting to wake Chara.
"You wanna talk about earlier?" It asked with a gentler tone. You felt your cheeks heat up a little.
"Kinda."
