"Are you okay, Laur?"

"Yeah, I'm great. Don't worry about it. It's okay, I'm fine. It wasn't even that big of a deal."

Lucas shook his head at me as he placed a finger on my lips, signaling for me to be silent. "If you were okay, you wouldn't be talking as fast."

"No really, I'm fine. It's just seeing her... brang back a lot of bad memories."

He gave me an encouraging smile and pulled me in for a very comforting hug.

"Okay how about we get you home and forget about the whole thing?"

"But I don't want to go home yet!"

"But, I promised your mom I would get you back by 10:00 p.m. sharp."

"Who said we have to listen to my mom?"

"I did."

"Who said I had to listen to you?"

"I did."

"Who says, you get to-"

I was interrupted by the taste of his lips on mine. All the blood suddenly rushed to my cheeks, as I began to feel like I was drifting peacefully in the clouds; just like I was before... in heaven. His lips were soft and tender against mine, it was the best feeling in the world. As he pulled away, I let out a little whine. He grinned at me. He was enjoying this.

"So the first time you see me, you tell me to go away and now I kiss you and you don't want me to stop? Ahh, I love you."

My eyes widened. Did he just say that? Did he just say what I think he said?

Lucas immediately shook his head, probably noticing the surprised look that appeared on my face.

"No, no... I didn't mean it that way! I meant as in, I love you... as a friend? I love how you're fun to be around. I love how indecisive you can be... I love how your dark hair outshines the sun and how your eyes gleam and..."

My heart was racing faster and faster, my body getting hotter and hotter.

Was Lucas in love with me? It's not possible. I won't be here forever. God sent me down here to learn whatever lesson he wants me to learn. Once that lesson is up, I'm done. I'm returning to heaven! What happens once I learn my lesson? Lucas and I can't be together, let alone fall in love!

"Lucas, I- I can't do this. I am so sorry!"

I quickly dug my face into my hands, holding back a million tears from falling as I ran out of Le Champlaine.

'We aren't right for each other,' I thought, too scared to look back at him. 'I know we aren't.'
