We sat in tension that never seemed to let up. Eden never turned around, and his eyes seemed to be glued onto the floor. I crossed my legs and waited silently for him to talk. His mouth opened slightly then closed again his jaw was clenched as his eyes darted around the carpeted floor. Like he was planning something. Hopefully to get us out of this mess that wasn't really controllable. He said it was normal, so wouldn't he know how to get through this?
It's not his fault. He should know that. It's common for this to happen. He said it was. I wasn't completely unharmed, but it's still a good thing I wasn't dead. Maybe he was thinking about how I was taking having someone's blood on my hands. Honestly, I was taking it just fine. He had the intent of killing me, so it's technically self defence. We fled the crime scene so it would make sense why we seemed like murders. To an extent we were.
Alex stop. You're over thinking this. Once again I took in Eden's smell on his shirt. He was polite, sexy and cute. My once crossed legs were at my chest. My arms squeezed tight around them. Stop thinking. Alex it's not your fault just like it isn't Eden's. Take a breath, and stop.
I felt a hand on my shoulder, and looked up to see Eden. The god of a boy standing in front of me now. His expression was serious. Not an over whelming serious, a soft, and gentle serious. We made eye contact, just before he hugged me.
"Hey, Blondie." He began while holding me in his arms, "Do you mind staying by my side so I can protect you? I mean, it's fine if you don't want to." Eden began to mumble again.
I nodded my head gently into his chest. Being hugged by Eden made me feel safe. "It's fine by me. I mean. I've never really had anyone to protect me. My dad left my mom and I before I was even born and my mom's the biggest crack whore in town. So, that would be nice."
Eden let me go and began speaking again,"I have just revived word that the rival gang has retreated. So, we better get back and get you cleaned up better. Let's go, you don't have to give me my shirt back, but here's your hoodie, I stitched it up, and washed it. Your shirt, sadly couldn't be helped. It's in the trash."
I sighed and shrugged it off, before handing him his shirt back and putting on my hoodie. I looked down at my torn and tattered shoes.
"How long have you had those?" Eden looked down at my shoes too.
"I dunno. Maybe two years? Not too sure. But I was so proud when I bought them myself." I looked back up and smiled.
"You can tell a lot about someone by their shoes. Yours scream 'I'm poor!' I'm taking you to buy new ones."
"Eden you don't have to do that. These still fit and I have money at home to use if I really wanted new ones. You really don't have to." I began trying to talk him out of it. I didn't want to trouble him at all.
"Nope, you're getting new ones. You can't talk me out of it. I wouldn't have said I would take you to buy new ones if I didn't care. I want you to be able to have nice things, Alex. C'mon. I really care about you."
I sighed and put my hands up in defeat, "Fine, I'll let you buy me new ones."
Eden's bright smile seemed like he just accomplished something great. Like he just won a brand new car, or won a war. His dimpled pressed perfectly into his cheeks, and wow. He obviously took really good care of himself. Better care than really has even been taken if me.
I must've gotten caught up in my thoughts, because next thing that I knew I was in the car with Eden. My thoughts kept racing around my head as we drove down the highway. I had to focus on something. My phone. That's it. I can focus on it to help my thoughts stop swirling around. I began to scroll through my explore page on Instagram, seeing many different things, but I always seemed to ignore them.
I felt the car come to a stop and heard my door open. I got out quickly with my bag on my back. I kept pace with Eden, who walked pretty fast. He led me to a room and opened the door for me to walk in first.
"Oh, um, thanks." I stepped in carefully and sat down on the twin bed.
Eden sat next to me and wrapped his arm around my waist, "Is this okay?" I felt a blush rush into my cheeks before answering.
"Yeah. It's fine." Human touch always seemed so foreign to me. No one's ever hugged me, or even wrapped their arms around my waist. It felt, nice.
A woman soon walked into the room. She was wearing a nice dress that split up to her thigh, why was everyone dressed nicely, and I was here.
"Hey Eden, who's your lady friend?" She smiled like she knew something was going on between us, which wasn't very true at all.
"Oh, um. This is Alex. She goes to school with me." He paused for a second then realized that he forgot to introduce the woman in front of me, "Oh! And um, this is Red, she's the Mafia medic."
I smiled softly and held out my hand, "It's nice to meet you, Red."
"Let's save that stuff for later, sweetie, let me see that bullet wound. I've already heard about it." Red carefully took off my hoodie and carefully analyzed the stitches in my arm, "not bad work Eden. But did you get the bullet out?"
"Yes ma'am. I did." Eden's posture was straight, almost perfect. His language changed.
A tall man with broad shoulders walked into the room, wearing a white pinstripe suit. Was this his dad?
