There's a lot new lately. My boyfriend and I are getting married in a few months. I'm living on my own for the first time. I've got a new job and new training. Family is hell. There's a lot more I shan't bore you with, but here's part six.... vote and comment. I'm not quite in my element yet, and I'm working to not get sucked back to an unhealthy place with my writing, so it's not the same as it was but it's something at least. Let me know if it's ok or if I should let it go, and it's not worth it.

I'd been home less than an hour when the knock came. I'd been expecting it, so I had the dogs quiet and was on my way to the door before the second knock came. I was still in leggings, but I'd thrown a loose off-the-shoulder shirt on over the sports top. I wasn't expecting a male though. He was just over a head taller than me, with loose brown hair that fell over his ears in lairs a few inches long, the bottom lair just brushing the nape of his neck. He was well built, slender but muscled, with slender fingers that danced on his thigh nervously as his other hand poised to knock again. His lips were full, the 'there' that plenty of men had without being overly full. His skin was lightly tanned, his eyes.... Holy crap on a stick. His eyes were flames of amber that danced and changed, and for the first time ever the phrase 'fire in the eyes' popped into my head. They were smoldering coals of life that made me want to warm myself at them. He was staring at me just as intensely as I'd been to him, and I liked it. Warmth broke across my skin, combined with goosebumps and a low flip in my belly that hadn't happened in.... Years. It scared me, thrilled me, and made me want more at the same time as I wanted to run the other way as fast as I could.
"I'm here for Sang Sorenson?" His voice was a soft tenor that soothed things inside me I didn't even know were ragged.... I loved it. Resisting the urge to wipe my mouth and check for drool, I nodded warily, still not opening the door all the way. "Tia Roberts sent me, said that you hadn't been answering your phone."
"Yes, sorry about that. Due to the circumstances she's aware of, my phone has been out of commission for a while. Apparently it decided to make the situation permanent and refuses to turn back on, even while plugged in."
"Oh. I can take a look at it, if you want? I'm a bit of a tech guy." He smiled disarmingly, breaking our formal tension. My shoulders relaxed, and I smiled back a little. Just a little. He could be a friend if I let him....
"No, that's all right. I'd rather get a new one. I'll be out today and will pick it up then."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, as you can see I'm well."
"All right." He still stood there though, eying me through the door. I sighed. Knowing Tia, she'd asked him to actually talk with me to get a view of my mental state. I was fine-surprisingly well actually.
"What's your name?" His eyebrow went up.
"You don't know it?"
"I wouldn't have asked if I did now would I?" I bit my tongue, wincing. I didn't talk back like that, what was wrong with me? I had a better filter than that! Usually I couldn't talk like that! But the blow never came. And I remembered I wasn't there anymore. The man was looking at me intensely again, making me blank my face, put up the wall that had hidden me from so many. He'd walk away if I was cold enough, but Tia would hear about it-and I couldn't disappoint her. For Tia, I could make small talk. I whistled for Bass, knowing Lass would probably stay away unless I called her. Then I stepped back, opening the door and motioning for him to enter.
