Olivia –Eleven years old—

"Poor girl. She's so young."

"What happened to Chloe?"

"A car accident. The daughter survived. The mother...well, not so much."

Shut up.

"How?"

"Chloe didn't wear the seatbelt."

"Oh, dear."

Shut up. Just shut up!

Why they couldn't shut their mouth? I didn't want to listen to any of this. I wanted them to leave me alone. Think of my feelings. Stop talking where I could listen. It was not like I wanted Mom to die. I wanted to scream at them. To get out. Leave me alone. I wanted my mom. Why she had to die? Why she left me this soon? I thought Mom had promised that we would be together forever. My world was only centered around Mom and Mom only. I had more than enough as long as I had my mother. Now the light in my world was taken away from me. How was I going to live? I had nothing. I had no one. What was going to happen to me?

"What's going to happen to her?" someone asked my unheard question.

"Foster, maybe. I heard Chloe cut off ties with her parents."

"To raise the child?"

I couldn't take this anymore—just because I was a child made me couldn't say anything. I was the one who lost my mother. Did they think because I was just a kid so they could say whatever they wanted? Even didn't think of me? Biting my bottom lip, I turned, only to face a lady with long wavy brown hair with a warm smile. "Hi, Olivia," she warmly greeted me. A fake. I knew she was here not to pay respect to my mother. She wanted something. I wanted these people gone from my house. The lady crouched so we would stand at the same height. I hugged my plush sheep tighter. "How are you feeling?" she asked. Was she dumb? I lost my mother; what else should I be feeling now?

Moron. "I'm okay, but I want to be alone. Can you make these people go away?"

"Yeah, sure, but I must tell you something."

"Tell me what?"

The woman's expression turned genuine. "I've tried to contact your grandparents as your only relatives left."

"What about them?"

She didn't immediately answer me. When she did, "I couldn't reach them," she dropped the bomb. The bomb I already knew would detonate.

I smirked. "You mean they didn't want to be reached," I said. She didn't answer. I knew. I was young but not stupid. My grandparents didn't want me. I had seen how they never appeared in my life. Mom never mentioned them. I asked once, but she said I could meet them if I wanted to. Mom was only trying to cheer me up—to make me feel wanted. Until today, I never desired to see them. I only had my mother. But now she was gone, I still felt the same. I didn't want to be with them. So, I told this lady, "I don't need them. I don't want to see them."

"Olivia, darling—"

"I don't want them! "I'd rather die instead of going with them. Even you! Just leave me alone!" I bellowed. Finally, I pushed out my desperation and frustration.

"Olivia, you can't stay here by yourself. You're still young," she tried to convince me.

"I can take care of myself. I don't need your help. Any of you."

"I... I can't do that. I can't leave you alone."

"I don't need your pity. If you want money, I don't have any. Get out and leave me alone," I told her again. I faced the guests, who were watching me like I was insane. "Get out, all of you!" I looked down, gripping my black dress and my plush. I could feel the tears in my eyes. I would not cry here. Yes, I was a kid, but I just lost my mother. I had to act like an adult. No one was going to save me anymore. No one was going to sleep with me when I had a nightmare. No one was going to cook me breakfast. And no one was going to whisper I love you. I was alone forever after my mother broke her promise. I would not cry. I would never cry. Please, tears, don't spill.
