The smell of cookies wafts through the air. I hug my fluffy unicorn tightly as demented voices sang carols on the stereo. My mommy was in the kitchen, making those yummy snacks that gave me toothaches for weeks. Daddy was in the living room, hanging shiny bulbs on a tree. I look at the tree, and wonder why we bring a corpse to our home every year just to dress it up throw it away.
Michael comes into my room. He is bigger and stronger than I am. He slams the door behind him and shouts at me. I don't know why. Why are you so angry? He pulls me off my bed and kicks my stomach. Tears spring from my eyes. But I don't even make a sound. I know that bad things always happen if I do. "You are useless! You little piece of..." Michael shouts at me. I close my eyes tightly. When I open them Michael is gone. In his place is a ripped up unicorn.
