A/N; yo yo yo, Haven here, with your daily dose of boyf !! okay, so this isn't the best fic out there- it's short, rushed, and in a weird tense. but i really wanted to write some fluff, so take it >:( anyway, requests are always open, comment or DM me! //x
Neither Jeremy, nor Michael, had any plans for this saturday other than to play video games and stuff themselves with junk food. It had been a weird week at school, everybody finally falling back into old routines, little altered other than a few friendships; and, in a few select cases, relationships.
Michael was the one to lean in and establish the first contact, leaning his forehead against Jeremy's affectionately, planning initially to tease him on his major loss of that round of Mortal Kombat (Jeremy had bought him a SEGA Megadrive for his birthday back in March, and it was utterly amazing, other than the poor quality of graphics on a bigger screen.) he'd scrapped that idea when he saw the way Jeremy's eyes instantly met his, murky blue ponds of uncertainty, with tired shadows lining the underneath, exhausted but captivating nonetheless. Of course, Michael would think that Jeremy's eyes were pretty. He always has done. Jeremy and Michael both realised how close they were to the other, and both were painstakingly aware of what they were doing, and how weird it was, and how, in the awkwardness and hesitation of the entire moment, their faces are closer together than they'd ever been before- why had that happened again? and Michael had whispered a soft; 'hey.', his breath hot on Jeremy's face, and he'd laughed nervously, that small, slightly jarring laugh that escaped his lips in moments of true indecisiveness. Jeremy had felt as if his heart was going to burst out of his ribcage, and he didn't have a clue why.
'...hey.' He had replied, reluctant lips curving into a helpless smile, despite the 'serious moment'. And he noticed things about his best friend he hadn't before. Michael's eyes had looked like cocoa, in the dull yellow light cast by the game menu onscreen, eyes rimmed with thick lashes.Tthe way that he smelt faintly of marijuana, and 'Chilli Heatwave' Doritos, and the small freckle (...or was it a tiny mole? He'd never really thought about the difference. Was there a difference? He'd have to google that later.) just above his top lip that Jeremy had never really noticed before- because, really, why would he?
That moment- they'd stayed like that for several seconds. either of them could've pulled away, at any moment, but they didn't, eyes scanning desperately to try to read what the other was thinking, eyes wide open, until Michael's had fluttered shut at the touch of Jeremy's clammy, slightly sweaty palms cupping his face, the taller boy tilting his head upwards slightly as to be able to connect their lips, unobstructed (par Michael's glasses getting in the way a little,) and unsure, but also triumphant, in a way- it had meant a lot more, in their own, clunky, awkward-but-not-uncomfortable dynamic. He and Jeremy had always been extremely touch-comfortable with each other. He didn't quite know what was different about this time, what had led to something less platonic than anything they'd ever done before, only that it had started with Michael, and all of Michael's stupidity and awful sense of humour, and it had ended with Jeremy; overemotional, sensitive, brash-yet-careful, naïve, beautiful, and caring. Jeremy Heere, kissing Michael Mell on a matching set (a misshapen Ditto, and Snorlax, of course) of Pokémon beanbags purchased many (okay, maybe not so many) years ago.
The kiss was brief, Jeremy being slightly tense, Michael didn't quite know what to do with his hands, so he ended up almost bunching them up in Jeremy's sweater. Nonetheless, every movement is in character, from the sharp exhalation that escaped Jeremy's lips as they first contacted Michael's, the way Michael's glasses would bump against Jeremy's face and cause him to wince, the awkward fumbling and the way that Michael had to pull Jeremy closer to him to return the kiss, guiding it despite his inexperience due to Jeremy's hesitance, even the way it was over far too soon for either of their liking, to both of their surprise, and including the silence that followed. Jeremy fell back to sitting on his beanbag properly, gnawing at his thumbnail, blood rushing to his face as he realised what they'd- what he'd- just done. There was quiet for a good minute, stillness other than the mortal Kombat character select music playing quietly from the abandoned console. Michael took his glasses off, squinting as he cleaned them on the crimson fabric of his hoodie, and then placing them back in position on his face.
"Erm." He was most definitely not calm. Why would he be calm? But for Jeremy's sake, he doesn't freak out and overthink this, strangely lightheaded yet calm on the exterior, face warm, index finger winding the curled wire of his headphones round and round, eyes fixed curiously on the boy perched on the Snorlax beanbag beside him.
"I- Don't ask me to explain. Or confess some- fucking- poetry about how much I love you. Or whatever you expect. Or don't. I- I dunno." Jeremy's voice wavers, and he definitely doesn't get all the words out without a slight stammer as he speaks. "I don't know." He repeated flatly, and he could taste iron, from the constant gnawing at the skin beside his thumbnail, beading with blood. There was a subtle note of panic to his voice that Michael recognised, and from concerned gazes alone, he manages to persuade Jeremy to make eye contact with him, grey-blue eyes flashing dully with elusive alarm, something Jeremy often faces at moments of emotional conflict.
"Hey. It's fine. Don't sweat it, dude." Michael took a deep breath, unwinding the headphones wire and rewinding it. "though, I thought I might as well say this now, before I lose the confidence. I've liked you for at least a year and a bit now. Like- liked you, if you catch my drift. Though, I get it's confusing and frustrating. I don't even know if you like dudes." He laughed nervously, averting his gaze to a poster tacked to the wall across the room. "but, hey, that's how it is, and if it turns out you don't feel the same way, then- hey, things can just- uh, go back to normal?" he'd tried to keep his voice level, almost nonchalant, but there was definitely a slight tremor to his voice as he spoke, and his hands found their way to his hoodie pockets now, as he's sat criss-cross on his beanbag. Thankfully, Jeremy seemed to have taken this news okay. Like, okay as in- he hadn't bolted from the room. Yet. He was staring at Michael, curiosity lacing his gaze.
"You- like me?" he finally said, incredulously. There was a pause, and Michael put his hood up to hide his face, which he was almost certain was crimson at this point.
"Erm. That's kind of what I said, yeah."
"Like-like me? I mean, I know that's what you said, I'm an idiot, but-" he cut himself off, Jeremy's own pale pallor is flushed pink. There was an odd sort of numbness in his brain- not panic, thank god, but something that made it a little easier to process this. Though his own feelings still refused to be concise. "I mean-" he tried again, this time slowly trying to pick correct wording. "-I- like- you- too?" he didn't feel certain, but it sounded right. So he repeated it. "I like you too. I think. No, I know. I think- you're awesome." That sounded too platonic, crap- "I mean, hot." Michael's surprised expression at Jeremy's reaction lapsed into a snort of laughter. "Fucking dork." He teased lightly, and Jeremy's blush intensified- if that was even possible. It was a normal thing to say, for Michael, but now- there was something faintly flirtatious about Michael's tone that made Jeremy's brain hum blissfully and tied his tongue up in knots.
Okay, maybe Jeremy had no clue how to read his own emotions. But he'd figured out enough that he wanted to kiss Michael again. So he did.
