Not On Mode < Jaime Reyes >

Bart was the first person in the room, Jaime didn't have to say anything to him, he heard the scream when he first arrived in the zeta tube. He ran over to the medical supplies and grabbed a gauze pad. Lifting up her shirt he sees blood trickling down her back, two prominent gashes laid right beside her scarab on both sides.

Applying pressure to a set of gashes, she lets out a yelp of pain and tries to get away from it. Jaime holds her still, "Está bien, está bien. Tenemos que detener el sangrado."

"Jaime, mi padre. You have to tell them I'm alright." She replies more tears streaming down her face. Beads of sweat covered her face, she was forcing herself to say awake. To stay conscious and not fall asleep.

"Go. Bring them back here. I'll take the fall if you get into trouble. They're going to want to see her." Bart tells him, Jaime was frozen still. He didn't want to leave her. He was worried. "Jaime, go. I'll take care of her."

Jaime knocks himself out of his trance and then heads back to the zeta tube, beaming back to El Paso. He makes a quick call to his mom saying that he'd be home a little late before flying to Winter's house to retrieve her family. Upon arriving he knocks on the door and when her father opens the door her little sister comes running and pushes past her father, hugging the blue superhero. "Blue Beetle!"

He returns the hug and replies, "Can you go play for a little while? I need to speak to you papá."

Breaking off from the hug, Deana takes off running to her room and begins to play. Winter's father ushers the boy in and quickly closes the door. "I assume you're visit isn't going to be bringing me good news. What happened?"

"I don't know all the details sir, but I'm going to need you and your daughter to come with me." He tells her father.

Jaime studied the man as he walked to other room to grab his other daughter. Holding her closer to him as he's lead out of the house and then flown to the zeta tube located in El Paso. Walking through the zeta tube, Blue leads them straight to the room he left Bart and Winter in. They found Bart sitting in a chair and Winter laying head first on the bed. She was sleeping peacefully.

"Impulse, what happened?" Jaime asks, curious as to what happened after he left to go pick up her father and little sister.

Bart gets up from his chair and says, "The scarab seems to be healing the damage but it's slow due to the repairs it has to make to itself. She should be better in a few days."

"I'll...uh...leave you guys alone." Bart replies before super speeding out of the room.

Her father sets down Deana and Deana looks over at her older sister and she asks, "Daddy, what's what does Winnie keep getting hurt?"

"That's a good question, sweetie. Anything you can do to enlighten us Blue Beetle?" He asks glaring daggers at the teenage boy in front of him.

Blue Beetle sighs and then sits down on the bed next to her, "Well there are some bad people after her because she's a superhero."

The only reason he said superhero was for Deana, her father was putting the pieces together. "Is there some place that Deana can go I want to speak to you in private?"

"Yeah, Beast Boy and Impulse can watch over her and keep her company while we talk." Jaime says as he picks up Deana and brings her out into the hall where Impulse was waiting in the hall. "Can you and Beast Boy keep her occupied while we talk?"

Impulse nods and she happily goes with him. When they leave her father asks, "So what's really going?"

"The Reach want to reboot both of our scarabs to enslave the human race. I'm assuming that Green Beetle tried to do it with his own scarab and her scarab took up defense measures to counter attack it." Blue tells him surprised that he seemed unfazed by all of this. She must have told him everything. Well, almost everything when he said Reach his expression flashed from unfazed to anger and then returned to normal.

Her father sits on the chair and rubs the bridge of his nose. This was so confusing. He just missed when things in life were simpler. When his wife was alive and everything was back to the way things were.

But his wife was gone and things weren't ever going to return to his sense of normalcy.
