9. maybe death isn't so lonely

every time in the evening
when friends call out to each other
and engage in witty repartees
I cut a forlorn figure
in search of friends, loved ones
anyone who'd share with me
a quarter of a conversation
anyone to make me feel relevant

But then my loneliness arrives
cold and pretentious
dressed up as solitude and sadness
perceived as shy and conceited
it seeks my soul
gnawing at all of me
from the whiskers of my face
to the fur of my tail

yet I try to fight it
but this time I lost
so I hum my favorite song
and I write sad little poems
then I scribble this letter
I won't read with you
before finally surrendering
to the warm touch of eternity
maybe I won't be so lonely no more
