I stare out into the blue
The calm peaceful sea,
Tears fall down my face,
My smile disappears.
I take a step closer
My feet sinking into the wet sand,
My hair flowing in the wind,
Another step,
The cold water nipping my toes.
Another step,
Goosebumps arise on my legs.
Another step,
My skirt now skims the surface.
Another step,
My bodice is soaked.
I don't take another step,
I just stand there in the water,
Thinking of all that's been done,
All that's been said.
I close my eyes,
Imagining a better place,
A place far from here,
A place far from them,
A place where I can feel safe.
I suck in a deep breath,
I sink down into the water,
My body now submerged.
My heart slows down,
My lungs burn,
But I don't care.
I'm drowning,
Drowning in pain,
Drowning in sorrow,
Drowning in hatred,
Just drowning for me.
I stare out into black,
The light has come,
My heart stops beating,
My smile reappears.
I am free....
