Lew Kitchen

November 26th

Kaycee chewed her cereal slowly and thoughtfully, her eyes locked straight in front of her. She didn't hear the door to the kitchen open and close or the patter of feet making their way into the room. It was the hand that glided along her back that woke her out of her trance.

"Morning," Sean said, making his way around the counter and pouring himself a bowl of cereal for breakfast. She hummed in response, not knowing what to say. Her eyes were drawn to his back as he closed a cabinet. His lack of shirt putting his muscles on full display. Before he turned around, she painfully forced her attention back to her bowl, her natural blush turning a shade darker.

"You still up for class this morning?" He asked, crossing his legs at the ankle and leaning against the counter.

"Yeah let me just go straighten my hair," she said, standing up from her seat to put her bowl in the sink. The sink that was directly behind him. When she walked up to him, he made no move to grab it from her or get out of the way. He simply looked down at her, waiting for her to make a move. She kept her head down, stepping to his side and placing the bowl in the sink behind him, her head directly next to his shoulder. If she hadn't been making a conscious effort not to, their entire fronts would have been pressed together. Before she could back away, he leaned in, his chin lightly resting just above her ear.

"I really wish you wouldn't." His voice directly in her ear sent a shiver down her spine and blush up her neck. She backed away then, not looking up at him as she left the kitchen. She didn't see his smirk as she left, going up the stairs to his room. She took a deep breath and went into his bathroom, trying to make sense of everything in her head.

She plugged in the straighter that she kept in his bathroom and looked at her reflection in the mirror. She felt the rush of heat to her cheeks that his words caused once again, remembering how his mouth had felt pressed against her ear. Suddenly uncomfortable with her own reflection, she looked down again at the appliance in front of her. She heard his comment in her head and shivered again. Hesitating, she unplugged the straightener and put it back in the cabinet.

She kept her head buried in her phone on the drive to the studio, letting Sean contribute primarily to the conversation. She was texting Tahani, letting her know that she needed to talk to her when they got to class.

If Sean noticed her lack of participation in the conversation, he didn't let her know. Not that he wouldn't know what had her so distracted in the first place. When he pulled into a parking spot, he had to tell her twice before she noticed that they had arrived. Her sole focus was on her phone screen.

She unbuckled her seat belt and stepped out of the car, hurrying around to the other side while Sean locked the car.

"You okay Kayc?" He asked, genuine concern in his voice. She looked up at him, making true eye contact for the first time all morning.

"Yeah of course," she said, falling into step beside him as they made their way towards the building.

"You look kinda," he looked at her, trying to find the right word, "dazed."

She didn't know how to answer. He had to know he was playing with her head. Pleading ignorance when she was acting strangely rubbed her as kind of insensitive. Nonetheless, she simply turned to him and smiled, "Just tired I guess. I didn't sleep very well."

He smiled sadly at her, nudging her shoulder with his. He put his arm around her quickly, giving her shoulder a small squeeze before letting his arm drop back to his side. "I'm sorry."
