Chapter Twenty Five

Start from the beginning

I do reach the ground; and once I'm a good ten feet away from concrete, I click the gun once more and it releases me, as I plant my feet safely to the ground. I let out a strangled breath.

"Serena." Danni's eyes light up once I touch the ground.

"I told you I was fine, agent Martin." I scoff, and we walk through the city streets.

"You could have fallen to your death, agent Valentine." he tries to say it calmly but he still has worry in his eyes.

"But I didn't. There's a huge difference." I confirm.

Danni and I went separate ways after we reached Summington.

We agreed not to tell our agencies that there's another agent from a different association working on the same mission. I told him that I also have a team working with me. He told me that this was his solo mission.

I'm still a little bewildered about finding out that Danni's not the normal average high school boy who I thought he was. Of course he wasn't average, I could tell. He had great skill and agility, he could fight, and he was smart. All the qualities of a secret agent.

I wasn't sure how I was going to deliver the news to my team. Just call them up and be like 'hey, you know Danni? Well he isn't a suspect, but he is an agent from ROI. Just thought I'd let you know.'

Once I entered the front door, I found Parker sitting on the couch, the jar of water in his hands.

"Serena." he straightens up once I walk into the living room. "Where have you been? The team has been worried, we thought.." the sound of his voice chokes before he can finish his sentence, but I already know what was coming.

"I'm fine, Parker. Nothing...bad happened to me." I try to say casually.

The door bell rings, and I stand up, bewildered. "I told the team to come over." Parker tells me, "We were gonna discuss a search assignment."

"Does Mr. Collins know that I was gone?" I ask anxiously.

"No, we didn't want him to think we couldn't handle this mission," he explains as I trail behind my brother towards the front door.

Tilly, Johanna, and Cameron stand there casually, and I let them in. We sit at the dining table; like how we would at ICI in the conference room.

"Serena, you're..here." Johanna remarks, clearly surprised.

"What happened to you?" Cameron instantly lunges towards me, mindlessly grabbing the side of my cheek gently, and staring at the extensive cut along my temple down to the cheekbone. I wave him off, backing away with tensed shoulders. But instead of punching him like I usually would, I study his expression. Cameron's eyes are wide with some kind of worry, and his fists clench at his sides. I raise my eyebrows slightly, and then Cameron relaxes, pretending like he was never worried in the first place.

"Nothing, it's just a scratch," I shake it off, "Well, you know that date Danni and I went on?" I start, crossing my legs. My eyes naturally glance to Cameron again, but his manages a blank face.

"You finally called it a date." Parker wiggles his eyebrows, and I punch him in the shoulder.

"Well, that same guy from the coffee shop chased us. The one with the odd mask." I say, pausing and studying their expressions. "They eventually got us and knocked Danni and I out and took us to some building in downtown."

"They knocked you out?" Parker tenses up.

"They attacked you?" Tilly adds.

"I'm fine, guys." I assure them. "Anyways, when I woke up, I discovered that Danni isn't a suspect, or part of this 'intelligence.' But he is, indeed, apart of a different kind of intelligence."
