GRACES POV
Connor seemed so, well, happy around me. It was a great feeling knowing I can be with someone and be happy at the same time. And I'm not even faking it!
It was time for me to go home so I told Connor goodbye and he drove me home. As he walked me up to the door he turned around to face me.
"This was probably one of the best days of my life," he smiled and held both of my hands in his.
"Mine too," I giggled.
Then he hugged me. It wasn't a fake hug. It was real. I reached my arms around him and hugged him back. This felt really good. Like we were meant to be there.
"Oh no, I'm sorry, Grace. It's just I haven't had a hug in years and..." I cut him off by giving him a peck on the lips.
"It's ok," I smiled and then we both started laughing.
"Well, I'll see you tomorrow at school," Connor said.
"Ok. Bye! Be safe going home," I replied. He rolled his eyes playfully.
I went inside to a ticked off mom.
"Who were you talking too and why is it 6:30 instead of 6?" she asked.
I froze. I didn't know we were that late.
"Look mom I'm sorry. He needed a friend and,"
"No. He looks like he's the popular kid in school. Are you, dating him?!" she was angry. She doesn't want me to date anyone at the moment.
"Of course not mom," I rolled my eyes.
"Don't you roll your eyes at me!" she yelled. Geez woman.
"Mom. Why do you think I'm dating him?" I asked.
"I saw you hug and kiss him out there," she replied trying to calm down at least.
"Oh," was all I could say. I couldn't say it didn't mean anything because it did. It was my first kiss.
"You know what. Your 21. You're old enough to go and live by yourself and have a boyfriend," she sighed. Wait. Live by myself?
"What do you mean by living by myself?" I asked. She sighed again.
"I was saving this for the day you graduated but now is a better time," she said taking a key out of her pocket.
"This is for your very own apartment and you can move in whenever you want," she handed me the keys. I looked at them.
"Room 371," I said out loud. Catchy name.
"You can even have Kiki or Carla or whatever his name is come help you," she laughed.
"It's Connor mom," I smiled and hugged her.
"Thanks," I said.
"You're welcome. Now go live your life at its finest!" she said and kissed my forehead.
I went upstairs and called Connor. He came over and met my mom. I think she liked him by the way they were laughing. We packed and moved over to the apartment which already had made up beds and couches with pillows.
We unpacked EVERYTHING that was in the boxes and got tired. He slept on the couch and I slept in my new bed. It sure felt good to be in my own house in California.
Well. Not really a house but you know. We can all pretend sometimes.
