Start from the beginning

"Let's take a dip, babygirl." I leaned into him and allowed him to guide us. The rest of the gang followed behind us and I knew for a fact they were all talking about us, rather loudly. So much for subtly.

We made it to the shoreline, the waves crashed against our ankles and there was nothing more perfect. There was not a better moment than this.

Pyper, on my left, starting humming Wanderlust by James Bay and before I knew it, we were all singing softly, our heads tilted up at the night sky full of stars.

And then I felt something slice right through my right foot. I jumped and let out a piercing scream. Phoenix caught me in his arms bridal style and my eyes clouded with tears.

"Étoile, what's wrong," he asked frantically and demandingly.

"My foot, my right foot!"

"Holy shit, Adrianna, you're bleeding," he nearly screamed and rushed over to the picnic blanket, laying me on my back.

"A piece of glass, oh my fuck, there's a piece of glass in your foot, fuck!" He yelled.

"And I'm taking it out," he uttered, staring into my eyes as mine widened.

"Adrianna, just look into my eyes, focus on me and nothing else, just think about me, think about us," he said with his familiar demanding tone and I only nodded. My mind played over the millions of specks of memories I had of him and I, of my life with him, withe gang, and by the time I refocused to my life before me, he was holding up a shard of glass with a smirk.

"Nurse Worthington here," he winked.

"Oh my god, goodnight," I said incredulously, before covering my face with my hands as I knew for certain I was beetroot red.

I felt water being poured over my foot and I peeked through my fingers to see him washing the cut.

"Adrianna, it's not deep, looking at it, it's only a quarter of an inch deep and the bleeding isn't prominent. The cut isn't anything longer than an inch and it looks like the glass only grazed the surface of you skin," he crinkled his eyebrows as he cleaned the cut with alcohol and dressed it with gauze.

"Phoen," I was crying and moaning in pain. The said pain was un-fucking-bearable and the idea of needing stitches was making me lightheaded.

"Baby, I'm right here. Come sit up and I'll give up you an aspirin," and as if reading my mind, "Once we get home we'll see if you need stitches, okay?"

"Okay," I gave a tight lipped smile before grimacing in pain as I sat up and downed a glass of water with the pill.

"Can you stand?" He asked, but his tone sounded like he already the answer.

"I don't know," I stupidly answered.

"Come on, let's try," he gave me a wry smile though his eyes held knowingness. He knew I wouldn't be able to.

He stood up and bent down to take both my hands in his and I pushed off my left foot and tried to stand. But as soon as I stepped on my right, I fell on my arse, screaming.

"Just as I thought, I'm going to have to carry you," he smiled as if he couldn't wait to do just that.

"N-no you don't have to do that, I don't want you to have to," I fought stubbornly.

"Babygirl, you're hurt, let me take care of you," he begged softly. I, however, ignored him and tried to stand up once again. I braced myself on my left foot and my hands. But once again I made the stupid mistake of stepping on my right foot.

"Goddamnit!" I screamed and fall back on my arse.

"Okay and now I take you in my arms," he said, giving no room for argument.

"Okay," I whimpered in too damn much pain.

"Come on," he said, crouching down.

"What?" You're going to have to be a little more clearer than that Phoenix.

"Just wrap your leg around my waist and your arms around my neck," he explained gently as his hands went under my arse. I listened and a small whimper left my lips as we made it work. Our chests were aligned and he stood up to his full height as I realised the gang surrounding us.

"You okay, Adri?" Blake was the first asked.

"She's fine, she just got cut by a shard of glass and I cleaned and dressed it," Phoenix answered rudely.

"Guys, we should probably leave, the tides are picking up," Marl interrupted before Phoenix went batshit crazy. My jealous brute.

"Let's walk on the boardwalk a bit and then head home," Phoenix suggested, "If you want baby," he added softly in my ear and I nodded.

"Phoennn," I dragged his name.

"Yes, étoile?"

"You're going to have to carry me," I nearly whined.

"And the problem?"

"I'm heavy," I gave up and whined this time.

He, in turn, laughed wholeheartedly, "You weigh nothing in my arms, love." His answer caused me to huff and stare at him through narrowed eyes.

"You're adorable really," he continued laughing whilst I rolled my eyes before burying my head in his neck.

Blake grabbed the cooler, Marl grabbed the food basket, Jude grabbed the blankets and I didn't miss Pyper and Talon walking hand in hand behind us as we got on the boardwalk.

I turned my head slightly, resting it on his chest and took in the sight of everything we passed by. My eyes caught on to a girl passing by, her arms latched onto a guys and they were roller blading. Her outfit was what got my attention - a dusty rose dress with slits down the sides of the legs and the back was, backless and she paired it with strappy nude heels. Seems like the type of outfit I'd give the characters in my novels.

Our crew walked slowly, relaxingly, and I almost fell asleep on Phoenix.

"Aw, Adri's falling asleep," Marl teased and I narrowed my eyes at him, sticking my tongue out. Elieze had perfect timing, coming up to Marl and taking his hand in his.

"Aw, Marl," I mimicked his voice, batting my lashes as his cheeks tinted pink. Only seconds later his lips turned up into a smirk.

"Oh please, Ádrianna," he pronounced my name with an accent only Eli did, "You have your knight and shining armour, carrying you. You look like a whole baby bear latched onto him," he chuckled.

"Fuck you," I glared, "Oh wait, that's Eli's job," I smirked and Marl opened his mouth to say something before closing it again and scrunching his eyebrows. Oh?

"That's, what I thought," I ground out with a wide smirk and rested my head back on Phoenix's chest.

We continued our walk, passing through the legendary Margheritaville grill and a smile involuntarily made its way on my face from the memories that came flooding back in my mind.

"Princess, you remember our time here together?" I could hear the smile in his voice.

"Yes, of course I do," I whispered.

"We had such a good time," I tilted my head up to find him smiling faintly.

I remembered that day vividly - we spent most of the day at the carnival right here on the boardwalk and around sunset we went into the beach and walked along the shoreline. And then he surprised with reservations at the grill. And fuck was the food bloody fantastic. We ended the night with margheritas in our hands in a Doral boat cruiser in the ocean.

"You had the brightest smile on the your face. I would do everything, hell, I'd brig you the bloody world on my knees to see that smile a million times more," he breathed.

"Phoenix," I smiled and closed my eyes. More and more memories came rushing back and I succumbed to him as I felt Phoenix press his lips softly against mine.
