"You were worried about me, Specs?" He smirked.
"No, Tyler. I hoped that someone cut up your corpse and fed it to paranas. Obviously I was, you idiot! I'm a doctor. Worrying about people is kind of programmed into my system. It's a curse if you ask...
"Looks like we still got it," Dimitri high fived Tyler and Javi.
"Good job guys," Nic complimented them.
"I'm parched," Hazel dramatically rubbed her throat, "if I remember correctly, a certain loser owes us drinks." She had to throw that in there.
"Yeah, yeah. We're just going to tell the rest of them we're leaving," Dimitri said and he, Tyler and Javi left.
They returned 20 minutes later to grab their things.
Who the hell takes so long to tell a couple of people bye?
We all got into our cars and followed Dimitri. He led us to a bar down town called Frankie's. We sat at the bar while Dimitri ordered us a round of tequila shots. It'd been such a long time since I was out like this. Just trying to relax and let loose. Everyone gulped it down like nothing. It wasn't such a good idea to get super drunk on a Saturday given that we all had work on Monday but I guess these guys had a high tolerance for alcohol.
It was nearing the afternoon and the place just seemed to get busier. I got a tap on my shoulder when things began to get louder.
"Come with me," Tyler spoke into my ears. Maybe it was the certain level of alcohol in me that made me go willingly with Tyler.
We exited the bar and took a seat on a bench outside. The sun was just setting and the soft hews somehow managed to exaggerate all of Tyler's features even more.
Woah now! Earth to Kate!
"So, this is like a second date don't you think?" Tyler's words snapped me out of the funk that I was quickly falling into.
"This isn't a date, Tyler."
"You can't blame a guy for trying right?" I just smiled. "I think I've made it far enough into your good books to learn a thing or two about you." He tried to charm an answer out of me.
"Who's stopping you then?" I diverted.
"Uhmm, you!"
"Exactly my point."
"Come on, Specs. I just want to figure you out," he nagged.
"You already know about my family, my career and where I came from. What more do you want to know?"
"Anything! Random stuff," he answered.
"Fine, what do you want to know?" I realized that if I didn't answer at least a couple of his burning questions, I'll never hear the end of it.
"Uhmm, are you into a whole lot of kinky shit or are you just a plain Jane?"
I nudged him in the ribs. He squealed but laughed it off, "I'm kidding."
He better be.
"Fine! Action or rom- com?"
"Rom- com with the exception of the fast and furious franchise."
"Yeah, I've noticed," he laughed, "Sweet or savory?"
"Savory but I do love chocolate."
"Summer or Winter?"
"Winter. Wow, you were serious about the random stuff," I pointed out. These questions were so random, why would anyone even ask them?
"Obviously. What did..." He didn't finish his sentence before his phone buzzed in his pocket.
A text. I watched as his entire facial expression changed while reading it. It went from playful to hard. He quickly replied to the text and stood up with his eyes still glued to the phone.
"Tyler?"
He didn't answer. His phone buzzed again and this time he headed to his car.
"You should head back inside," he stated without even looking at me.
I stood up confused about what to make of this reaction. He unlocked his door and opened it. Before he stepped inside he finally looked back up from his phone. His face looked pale as if he'd just seen a ghost.
"See you on Monday." And with that he started his engine and disappeared into the night.
Okay then! I was still trying to wrap my head around the fact that a single text message could make a person go from having a conversation about random facts to someone who's blood drained face could easily get him a role in twilight.
I headed back inside and joined the others who didn't even seem to notice that we were gone. They seemed pretty drunk right now. I spent the rest of the night trying to decipher Tyler's reaction but got nowhere.
I watch too much criminal minds.
I eventually gave up, not wanting to hurt my brain anymore. I guess I'll find out on Monday.
