Describe something ordinary in an unrelated genre style. For instance, you could describe your living room in the style of an epic fantasy, a pigeon in the style of a western, your breakfast in the style of a steamy romance, or an office building in the style of a sci-fi thriller.
I did a French textbook in the style of a modern fantasy/adventure.
The ground gave way beneath me. "Timmy, no!" I heard my sister, Tina, scream as I plummeted. I fell into the gaping darkness, landing hard on my foot as I touched ground. Before, I was too surprised to scream. But, as my ankle twisted in an odd angle, I finally let out a scream. My ankle was swelling up before my eyes. It turned black and purple. The pain, the pain was the worst I've ever felt before. Tina must've stopped screaming because she started screaming again when she heard me scream. Carl was cursing nonstop. I could imagine he was already pacing, figuring out what to do. Through my pain, I yelled toward my friends, "Try to find another way down!" Tina's face appeared above the hole I fell through, at least thirty feet above my head. "Carl's trying to figure it out," She yelled down. "Take deep breaths, Timmy. Can you tell me where you are?" That was the first time I truly thought to look around. I seemed to be in a cave, one that looked not too different from the one I just fell from. I yelled the information back to my sister, but something caught my eye. "Tina, there's something in the corner. I can't quite make it out, though." Just then, Carl's bespeckled face appeared next to Tina's. "I think I found a way down. Come on Tina." The two of them left, leaving me alone in the darkness, with nothing except my throbbing ankle for company.
Good thing Carl and Tina didn't take too long to come down. They entered the cavern through an entrance I didn't even notice before, even with my hi-tech night goggles. With some difficulty, Carl helped me onto my feet as Tina went to check out what I saw before. She came back with a large, dusty book. "Guys, look what I found," she whispered, as if talking too loud would disturb the book. Keeping my weight off of my left foot and with the help of Carl, I hobbled over to where Tina was. I gently lifted the cover. "There's something written here, but I can't quite make it out..." I blew the dust off of the page. Tina, who was standing across from me, immediately doubled over in a coughing fit from the dust. Carl let out a few cat-like sneezes as he came closer. "The words... They're in a different language. A language I've never seen before." Carl leaned closer. "It's French, you dingus! Hold on. Let me translate." Carl took out his phone and typed the French words into Google Translate. "It says, 'where are you going after school? Are you going straight home? Valerie, she is not going straight home. She's going to the Cafe of the Universe with her friends Fatima et Zaina." Carl paused and looked over what it said on his phone. Finally, he said, "Guys this is someone's textbook for their French class." All three of us groaned. There was no treasure down here, after all.
This is really bad, I know. But I kind of like what I did here.
