This takes place during their sixth year at hogwarts, heading home for the holidays.

Harry and Ron were in a compartment on the hogwarts express all to themselves. They were having a conversation about quidditch, when all of a sudden Lavender Brown came to the door and began tracing hearts into the glass. Ron had been dating Lavender ever since his first win as the gryffindor keeper back in October. As she drew the sappy images onto the glass, Ron couldn't help but think about how unhappy he was with her. She loved him so much, but sadly, he couldn't ever return the passion. To be nice, Ron threw an uncomfortable smile towards Lavender. Once she was finally finished her master piece, she went skipping off looking for the trolley. A few moments later, Hermione passed their compartment. As she was passing, she stopped at the door and took a look at what Lavender had drawn. She looked like she wanted to scream, but instead, she took her anger elsewhere. As Hermione went storming off down the long aisle on the train, Ron just stared off in the direction where she stood standing. Harry, being Harry, tried to occupy himself by fiddling with his fingers. He couldn't stand when his two best friends weren't getting along. He knew that they would make up at some point, but when would that be?

The rest of the train ride back to Kings Cross Station was really quiet. Ron just thought about his girlfriend, Lavender, and how she made him feel. Yeah, she was nice and sweet and a bloody  good kisser, but she was clingy and too girly for his liking. Ron wanted someone who knew what they wanted and was confident in themself. He was looking for a girl who would always draw his attention whenever she'd walk into a room. Ron knew that he was becoming to irrational because he already had a girl who actually liked him, but he couldn't help but wonder if their was somebody else meant for him. He just wished that Lavender could be more like Hermione.

As Ron thought about Hermione, he felt a smile trace his lips. He wished that Lavender had bushy hair that was untameable, he wished that she would study hours on end. Heck, he even wished that she did that cute thing Hermione does when she reads. You know, like when she bites her lip. He wished that Lavender smelled like vanilla, but instead, she just smelled like very fragrant flowers. As Ron thought about these things, he saw Harry waving his hands violently in the air, almost like he was trying to karate chop somebody in his invisibility cloak.

"Oi, mate.... are you alright?" asked Ron to Harry.

"Yeah, there is just a fly that won't leave me alone" replied Harry while putting his arms down.

"Oh.... ok"

"Are you ok? You look like something is on your mind." said Harry while looking at Ron.

"I'm just thinking about Lavender..... and Hermione"

"What about them?" asked Harry in a confused tone.

"I know it sounds bad, but I don't think I like Lavender all that much" whispered Ron while looking at his shoes.

"Wow.... ok..... how come?" asked Harry while showing a little more interest.

"I mean she is lovely and all, and she is an excellent snogger and all, but she is not really what I want in a girl"

"Well what do you want?" asked Harry while smiling at Rons reason.

"I want a girl who is nice, smart, and pretty. I want a girl who isn't afraid to talk to me. I need someone who actually cares about me and not just about my lips. I want a girl who understands me... who doesn't look at me as just 'Harry Potter's Best Friend'." said Ron with a smile beginning to form on his lips.

By now, the train had just pulled into the station. As the two boys got up from their seats in the compartment, they saw Hermione walking by carrying her ginger cat named crookshanks. Harry smiled and waved at Hermione, and she smiled back. When she looked at Ron, she gave him a small smile and a little wave. This sent Rons stomach into a hurricane of butterflies. As Hermione left the train, Ron looked at Harry and said...

"The perfect girl that I am looking for, is Hermione."
