My house is right next to a stream.
While walking from college to house, I cross the bridge right above the stream. And every time I cross it, Sadness creeps inside me. My heart breaks to see the amount of garbage thrown in it.
I watch the water turning dirtier and dirtier every day. This got me to think about it. Do something about it.
I talked to my father and got to know that the Stream was really clean 40 years ago.
"Fishes used to swim in it." He told me. "That's how clean it was. We used to catch them." He chuckled a bit.
And now? What happened?
"People started throwing trash. You don't need a reason to do that. One person Throws something, Others follow."
Somehow, every thing I learned in smaller grades came back to me. How stream join the lake and than river and than the ocean. Its not only the aquatic life, its harmful and deadly for the people too.
"Their are people who know they'll die if they drink that water." My father said, gravely. "But they still drink that out of thirst. Even if they don't die they get disease that is more painful than death."
During our talk, i kept thinking. We never think before polluting. That it might be deadly for someone. We are like serial killers. The only difference that they know before killing, We don't.
"What can I do?" I asked My Father.
"Spread awareness."
A little spark of hope was shining inside me. But it died.
SPREAD AWARENESS?!? How many people will listen to me? And what if they do listen. We can never clean the area just by Telling every one to. I was hoping for a Mind blowing idea. And look what I got.
"If you keep talking to people, They'll listen one day." He said, shortly. Clearing all Questions.
And than one day maybe It'll turn into a beautiful Lake.
It'll take ages. That's for sure. But deep down inside Something urges me to do it.
It's better than doing nothing. It's better to take a small step than stop walking altogether.
