~SORREL HILL HORSE CAMP~

I loaded my chestnut gelding, Jack, into the trailer. Today was the day I was going to horse camp! I've always wanted to go, but we've been to busy the past few summers with the farm. Now I could finally meet other equines of all kinds and styles! I, myself, was a jumper. Jack was my Hanoverian, he was 16.3 hands, and had gorgeous long mane.

I tied him up to the ring, before hopping out of the trailer and shutting it. Skipping over to the truck, I jumped in and waved to my parents. "Bye Momma! Bye Daddy!" I then, started the engine hearing them yell love you back. "Love you!" I replied and just like that I was on my way to horse camp!!!

I was only a few minutes on the road before my bestie called, I answered her call. Luckily she was on FaceTime, so I didn't have to text or hold the phone to my ear. "Hey girl!!" She smiled. "Hey! Wanna meet up at Whataburger?" I asked pulling onto the highway off of my dive.

"Yess! Remy, is so mad right now! I loaded him up right after he got his nap, and he's so grouchy!" She laughed. I giggled, picturing her horse's ears pinned and a glare on his face. Remy was her blood bay, Hanoverian gelding, he was just a little shorter than Jack, standing at 15.2 hands. I hung up and started a new route to whataburger.

***********

I parked my truck, taking up at least three parking spaces. Jumping out of my truck, I casually walked inside to find, Hannah, my best friend, already in line about to order. She nearly got out of line to hug me, we haven't seen each other since summer started.

I quickly walked over to her as we both tightly embraced each other, exchanging greetings. We ordered our food and walked over to a booth. "How's Remy?" I asked curious to know how her stubborn horse had been doing. "He's just fine, although he is completely fed up with Junior! He hates that little colt, although it is funny to see them together..." she grinned widely.

Junior was her light Palomino Hanoverian colt, he's currently four years, but she really wanted to bring him. I simply just brought Jack, I didn't bother bringing any other horses. For one thing Jack is the only horse that is truly mine, and for another I really wanted to experience this with just him.

"Guess what????" Hannah squeaked. "What?" I leaned forward excited. "Remy and I cleared 1.6 meters!!!" She cheered. "Oh my gosh Hannah!!! That's amazing!!" I cheered. The staff brought our food, and we gladly didn't waste any time.

Soon we were back in our trucks and both on our ways to horse camp!

******

When we arrived we were immediately greeted by several staff members. I had grabbed Jack and we waited for Hannah to grab both Remy and Junior. She arrived a few minutes after and stood by us. "Beautiful horses! Hanoverians I'm assuming?" A female staff member we later found out was named Liz.

We nodded giving each other proud smiles to own such an amazing breed. "Well, welcome to Sorrel Hill! We are extremely excited to have such high level riders such as yourselves attend here. The stables are right beside the dorms, as you requested we have your horses stalling right next to each other. Their stalls numbers are 65, 66, and 67, you can decided which goes into which. Here are name plates to add to their stalls. Once they're situated, there is a tack room.

"The tack room is very large for your barn, but have your names just above the tack holders, so that everyone knows it's your tack. Have a nice stay, and Clarissa the head of the camp is in the office at the meeting building. Go and see her after you're settled in." She instructed handing us our name plates and walking away to greet more campers.

Hannah and I shared an excited smile as we lead our horses to the barn. Our stalls were at the very end, all together. We put our horses in the stalls and wrote their name on the name plates, before sliding the paper into the name plate frame. We then walked to the office and were directed to our dorms.

Hannah and I were roomies. I sat down on my bed testing it out. The mattress was very fluffy, the pillow a little hard but I expected that, I loved it! I glanced around the dorm, the walls were a tan color, the floor was carpeted, the windows let just the right amount of sunshine in. The small tables in our tiny kitchen area were a cute white that had a small tint of pink.

The kitchen was small but very cute, with a small silver stove and microwave and with a mini fridge. They also had a small clean sink by the hardwood cabinets. My eyes trailed off to the bathroom, it was just big enough for a toilet and a shower with sink and a cabinet under it. A little head mirror just above the sink.

The kitchen was to the left of the bedroom and the bathroom to the right... I honestly couldn't feel more joyful than now!! Hannah and I squealed!! "We're in our own dorm!!" I yelled. "Just us and our boys for five weeks!!!" She jumped. I couldn't wait for our journey to begin!

********

After a few hours we finally had gotten all of our belongings settled in and called our parents to let them know we were okay and made it. We then later attended a camp meeting explained the rules, several activities we could attend, curfew, and our agenda which fitted our style and events. Hannah and I were just outside of the meeting building looking at our schedules:

I finished reading the schedule for Jack and myself, it's going to be a long day tomorrow but I can't wait!!! It was already ten o'clock so we didn't have but an hour left to do whatever. Hannah and I immediately ran to the barn. There were a total of eight barns each barn holding seventy horses, we were assigned barn three.

As we walked down the alley, the horses occasionally would poke out their head to watch us. When we reached our horses, they were in the back of their stalls sleeping. "Jack," I calmly called to him, walking in his stall. His head quickly raised and looked at me, he turned and walked over to me. I smiled as he put his head in my hands. He was always so sweet!

Jack loved to be petted, but he always would rather have me pet him. My hands rubbed along his jaw and neck. I watched as Jack cocked his back leg, letting a deep long sigh out. I hugged my gelding, I loved him so much and I could tell he loved me too. We finished up loving on our horses then went to our dorms to end the day.
