Tears were falling endlessly on the counter top. Kyungsoo rubbed his eyes with a handkerchief. He seldom cries. He never cried because of a broken heart. He never cried because of Kai. He immediately washed his face with cold, running water from the faucet.
Earlier, he sneaked a peak while Kai was texting. He read Oh Se Hun on top of the screen. Kai playfully pushed his hyung's face away. Oh Sehun. Who wouldn't like that guy? He is extremely good looking, much more fun than he ever is and he is quite popular among everyone in school. He also shares the same interest in dancing with Kai. They have been hanging out a lot lately which made Kyungsoo jealous. He kept his feelings to himself. He has no one to talk to and he is rather uncomfortable opening up about love with anybody...especially Kai.
He could feel tears forming in his eyes again and before they could even fall, he looked up. Keep your shit together, Do Kyung Soo. He chanted to himself. He exhaled deeply and got back to work. This time, he did everything right and after more than an hour, twelve perfectly-frosted cupcakes were lining up infront of him. He carefully placed them in a box and into the fridge. He dragged himself towards his room, picked up a pen and a piece of paper from the drawer and started scribbling his confession as well as his goodbye to Kai...after which he cried himself to sleep.
It was 7 in the evening when Kyungsoo headed towards Kai's house carrying two paper bags with the cupcakes inside and the letter in his right pocket. Every step felt heavy as he knew he was about to lose his best friend in a while. But you have to do this. He thought to himself. You're not only hurting yourself if you go on with this pretention but your best friend as well. He made up his decision and he made himself ready for whatever that may happen.
He was already in the steps of Kai's house and everytime he gets nearer and nearer, his feet got heavier and heavier. He placed both paper bags down and rang the doorbell. The door opened but no one greeted him. It was dark and quiet inside.
What the heck? Kyungsoo thought. It must be one of Kai's pranks again. Kyungsoo stepped in slowly and he tried flicked the switch on the wall.
POP!!!
"SURPRISE!!!!"
Kyungsoo's eyes widened into a full circle. Confetti was flying everywhere and the stereo began blasting party songs
Kyungsoo has no idea what was going on until...
'KYUNGSOO-HYUNG HWAITING! We will miss you!' the banner on the wall read.
He saw his closest mates Baekhyun and Chen holding empty party poppers. Tao, Kris and Chanyeol was handling the make-shift vj-booth behind the bar. Luhan and Xiumin who were seniors of Kyungsoo last year were mixing drinks and his classmates Lay and Suho were there. Even Sehun was also there.
They all approached Kyungsoo and hugged him, congratulating him.
"You're gonna rock college, hyung!"
"We will miss you in practices, man!"
"Call us often from Seoul, hyung!"
"Let's meet some time in Seoul."
Kyungsoo's cheekbones were hurting from smiling. His heart-shaped lips, which no one sees so often, brightened up the whole room.
He looked around but Kai was nowhere in sight.
"Looking for me, Hyung?"
Kyungsoo turned to the door. Kai was standing there with that smile Kyungsoo so loved.
Everyone faked out coughs and mumbles. Tao and Sehun playfully grabbed the paperbags with the cupcakes which were lying in the middle of Kai and Kyungsoo. The rest of the boys started wolfing down on the prepared food and drinks on the table leaving the two on their own.
"Surprised, Hyung?" Kai stepped forward until he was close enough and hugged his best friend. "I am going to miss you big time."
Kyungsoo hugged Kai back. "You're crazy, Kai." He tightened his grip on Kai's shirt, fighting back his tears. "Thank you."
The boys all let out fake coughs and oohs and girly squeals.
"Step outside with me, Hyung." Kai held his best friend by the shoulder and led him towards the front porch.
Kyungsoo was hyped about the surprise that until now, he still can't sink in what just happened. Kai put in too much effort for this night.
"Sehun helped me plan everything, Hyung." Kai sat on the benches and Kyungsoo followed. Hearing Sehun's name pinched his heart a little bit. "I am seriously not ready for you to leave."
Kyungsoo smiled, "You have two weeks to annoy me, Kai. Let's just make the most of it."
Kai stared deeply into his hyung's eyes as his face got closer and closer and closer until their soft lips met. Kai touched Kyungsoo's face, still locking their eyes together. Kai tilted his head to the right; that is when Kyungsoo responded. He held Kai's face in-between his fingertips and kissed him deeply.
Kyungsoo was almost breathless when their lips pulled apart. Kai smiled and pulled his hyung into his chest, making him hear his heartbeat.
"I think I just confessed to my first love, Hyung." He whispered into Kyungsoo's ear. "I love you, Do Kyungsoo. I love you so much."
Kyungsoo looked up until their eyes met again. "I love you so much, Kai. I always have."
Kai leaned closer until their noses touch. "You don't know how long I have waited to kiss you. I'm sorry I only had the courage now." He pulled Kyungsoo for another kiss.
They stopped as soon as they heard a knock from inside.
They could hear Baekhyun's voice, "What's going on out there?!"
"We're out of cupcakes!" Tao whined.
"Kai! Can we play with your Wii?"
"I need to pee. Where's the bathroom?"
Kai sighed. Kyungsoo gave him a comforting smile.
"We should get inside." The younger boy stood up.
"I'll follow in a while." He smiled. "I need to tell my Mom I'll be home late."
Kai grinned and gave him a wink before getting inside.
Kyungsoo walked towards the fence of Kai's house. He found an empty paint can lying on the ground. He picked it up and positioned it in front of him and took out the letter he kept on his pocket. He laughed at how pathetic he seemed from the night before.
Kyungsoo searched his pocket for a lighter and flicked it underneath the paper and placed it inside the can. He waited until all parts of the paper burned into ashes.
There is no use for goodbyes. He thought to himself. I am the one Kai loves. He can't help but smile at the thought.
After sending a text message back home, Kyungsoo heard Kai call him from the door. As he was walking back to the party, he was floating in euphoria. He got the man he loves. What more could Do KyungSoo ask for?
