"Mr. Wallert," the prosecutor's voice cut through the tense courtroom, "can you tell the court where you were the night you saw the two gentlemen at that table?"
"I object, Your Honor! Counsel is leading the witness!" Candis's voice rang out as she rose to her feet, her gaze unwavering.
"Noted. Counsel, please refrain from leading. Ask the question again," the judge instructed, his voice firm but even.

.
Candis paced, a silent rhythm of heels clicking against the polished floor. The courtroom held its breath, the air thick with anticipation. Every eye was on her, on the witness.
"Mr. Wallert," Candis finally broke the silence, her voice a measured calm as she stopped directly in front of the witness stand. "You stated that on the night of the shooting, you were absolutely sure it was Eric Hatch and Donny Fitzgerald you saw running out of the building. Is that correct?"
"Yes, ma'am," Wallert affirmed, his voice barely a whisper.
Candis gave a slow, deliberate nod. "Mr. Wallert, do you wear glasses?"
"Yes."
"Did you have your glasses on the night you claim to have seen Eric and Donny?"
"I..." Wallert hesitated, his eyes darting away.
"Mr. Wallert, remember that you are under oath," Candis's voice was a low warning, devoid of harshness, yet full of conviction.
"At the time, no. Only because I was cleaning them. But when I looked up, I saw those two running towards my cab and getting in." His voice was laced with a nervous tremor.
"Were you looking down at your glasses, ensuring they were perfectly clean?"
"Yes... yes, I guess so." His confession was a reluctant sigh.
"So, it's safe to say you didn't actually see my clients running out of the building, but rather only running to your cab? And that, there could have possibly been someone else running out and away from the crime scene, someone you didn't see, due to you not having your glasses on or looking up at the time?" Candis's words hung in the air, a devastatingly logical conclusion.
Before he could offer a defense, Candis pressed on, her voice rising with an impassioned plea.
"My clients weren't found with a gun. They are two young men, college students, who were merely next door, getting a sandwich, when this all unfolded. It just so happens the shooting took place precisely as they were leaving the establishment next to the crime scene. They were seen running not from the crime scene, but from the place beside it. And they weren't running because they were guilty. They were running because they heard the shots too, and they were scared—terrified—like any other young Black men in Chicago would be. They were seen by a man who, at that crucial moment, didn't have his glasses on. A man who only heard the shots, then saw them running to his cab. I rest my case, Your Honor. I ask that this case be dismissed and all charges against my clients be dropped. They simply want to return to their studies, to their futures."
Candis offered a small, confident smile as she turned, her back to the witness, and walked with a victorious stride back to her seat. She knew, with a deep certainty in her heart, that she had won.
.
.
"Thank you so much, Mrs. Stone!" Eric and Donny's parents enveloped Candis in a tearful hug, their relief palpable.
"You're welcome," Candis replied, her voice soft with genuine warmth. "I'm always happy to help save the future of our young Black men, especially in a situation like this. You both have amazing sons with incredibly bright futures ahead. All I ask is that when they go pro, I get free tickets. My husband absolutely loves the Bulls!" Candis chuckled, a joyful sound.
After heartfelt goodbyes, they left the courtroom. Candis, gathering her belongings, carefully placed them in her briefcase, a contented sigh escaping her lips as she walked out.
The moment she stepped outside, she, along with Eric and Donny, were swarmed by a barrage of reporters.
"Another day in the life of Candis Stone," she mused to herself, a small smile playing on her lips.

"So, tell us a little bit more about your new makeup line," Tiffany Billert prompted, her eyes sparkling with interest.
"Well, my best friend Candis Stone and I decided to create a beauty product specifically for women of color," Teonna began, her voice radiating enthusiasm. "There are many products out there, but what makes our Melanin Goddess line different is that it's exclusively for Black women. We use a lot of natural oils, plants, and fruits in our products. Think blackberries, kiwi, the oils and citrus from oranges, apricots, coconut oil and milk, even oils from roses and aloe vera plants. Nothing has any harsh chemicals. As Black women, our melanin protects us from sun and pollution damage, so we need to do everything we can to protect it. Using only natural oils, plants, and fruits helps us do that. With Melanin Goddess, you get all the vitamins your skin needs to continue to age with perfection." A radiant smile lit up Teonna's face.
"Well, we have Yolanda Heart with us today," Tiffany announced, her gaze shifting to the audience. "Yolanda has been using Melanin Goddess for three months. Before she started, she had been undergoing cancer treatment. She's now a two-year cancer survivor and has been trying to restore her skin to its beauty before the radiation and chemo. Here's a photo, before and after using Melanin Goddess." Tiffany revealed the images, and the audience erupted in amazed applause as Yolanda gracefully walked onto the stage.
"So, Yolanda, tell us about your experience with Melanin Goddess."
Yolanda wiped a tear from her eye, her voice choked with emotion. "First off, let me just say, thank you." Her gratitude was raw, heartfelt. "Your products have truly changed my life. I struggled so much to get my face back to its natural glow. I used to pile on makeup, layer after layer, just to feel beautiful after my cancer treatment. But once I started using your face creams, washes, and makeup, I immediately saw the changes, and so did my husband. It truly worked miracles for me. My skin used to be so dry, flaky, and cracking from the treatments. And now, it's back to its healthy glow."
Placing a hand over her heart, Teonna beamed, tears welling in her own eyes. Unable to resist, she pulled Yolanda into a warm embrace. Teonna was overwhelmed with joy, a deep satisfaction knowing that her and Candis's beauty products had genuinely made a difference in someone's life.

"Damn, it feels good to be home," Cedric exhaled, a wave of relief washing over him as he and Matt stepped off the plane.
"Right? The L.A. fashion show was great, L.A. showed us love, man. But I can't wait to get home to the wife," Matt replied, adjusting his bag on his shoulder, a longing in his voice.
"You and me both. I miss my girls," Cedric agreed, a soft smile on his face.
"Oh yeah, I forgot to ask. How'd Candis's big trial turn out?" Matt inquired, curiosity lacing his tone.
Cedric's smile widened. "As you can see... my baby's a beast." He pointed to the massive TV screen in the airport, showing Candis confidently speaking to reporters outside the courthouse.
"That's what's up," Matt acknowledged, stopping to watch. "Looks like my baby did her thing too," he added, looking at another screen where Teonna sat next to Tiffany Billert, the host of "Beauty Today," a new and popular TV show.
"Look at us, man," Cedric said, a profound sense of pride swelling in his chest. "We own one of the world's biggest jewelry companies, and now a clothing label. And we're married to beautiful women who are taking over everything!"
"Yeah, man, we're lucky," Matt said, starting to walk again.
"No, man," Cedric corrected him, following close behind, "we're blessed."
Well I thought it was time to bring back some of my favorite characters. It's been long enough and I know y'all have been waiting to see what became of Candis, Cedric, Teonna and Matt. Well get ready. Their lives have changed and so have their stories.
