"Why would you do that!?" Steven shouted, his voice a mixture of sadness and anger. You dropped your head, looking at your feet.

"Why do you care?" you asked quietly, your throat getting a weird feeling.

"Because you could seriously hurt yourself, (Y/N)!" his voice sounded a bit off. You knew he was either crying or about to cry.

"Do you think I don't know that?!" you snapped, looking up at him, keeping your eyes opened so that the tears didn't spill.

"..why would you want to hurt yourself?" You paused at that question, the tears spilling out.

"Have you seen me, Steven?" you whispered. "I'm a mess. And nobody cares. My parents didn't care, my "friends" didn't care, my old town certainly didn't care, so why should you-"

"(Y/N), stop saying that," Steven demanded, wrapping his arms around you. "I know, for a fact, that somebody in this world cares about you. Because I care. And somebody else will care, too. Even if you haven't met them yet, I know I'm not the only one! So you don't need to do this to yourself!"

You didn't look at him. All you did was sob as he hugged you, hesitantly returning it.

He soon pulled away, smiling at you.

"Do you feel better?" he asked, hope in his eyes. You slowly nodded your head. "Good. I'm gonna go get some donuts. Do you wanna come with me?" His grin was too convincing.

"Sure," you muttered. "Let me clean my face up first." You stood up, then paused. "Um, where's the bathroom?" you asked, looking around. Steven pointed to the door to the bathroom and you nodded a thank you.

When you entered the bathroom, you sighed. Your face and eyes were very red. You grabbed some toilet paper and wet it with cold water, softly dabbing it on your cheeks and eyes. When the tear stains were mostly gone, you grabbed a paper towel and dried your face, giving yourself a small smile. You walked out of the small room to see Steven waiting at the screen door.

"Oh, right! I can introduce you to Lars and Sadie while we're out!" he exclaimed, and you smiled a genuine smile for the first time in a while.

As you approached the shop, you found that it was right next to your house. Before you could get a good look, Steven grabbed your hand and pulled you into the store. Inside there was a chubby blonde girl leaning on the counter, seemingly tired.

"Hey Steven," she muttered, and you could tell she was exhausted by the slight groan in her voice. Steven pulled you along to the counter, going a bit too fast for you to comprehend what was happening. You almost tripped, your eyes going wide.

"Slow down a bit!" you yelped, laughing a little.

"Who's this?" the girl asked.

"This is (Y/N)! They're new to town. (Y/N), this is Sadie. And the guy with the orange hair over there is Lars." You didn't notice him before. He was a tall, lanky boy with tan skin and fluffy orange hair. He seemed to be listening to something, as he had headphones on and was moving his head to some sort of beat. You waved to Sadie, looking away as to not make eye contact with her. You didn't like eye contact that much. "They just moved in yesterday, so this is their first time having a donut from Beach City."

"Well.. actually.." you muttered, a bit embarrassed, "this is my first time ever having a donut." Steven's eyes went wide.

"You've never had a donut!?" You shook your head. "Okay, we're getting you a glazed donut. Sadie, one glazed donut and two chocolate donuts with chocolate frosting." Sadie nodded, grabbing a bag and pulling out said donuts. She handed Steven the bag which he quickly handed to you.

You reluctantly pulled the glazed donut out of the bag, looking at it for a few moments before slowly taking a bite. The soft bread dissolved in your mouth almost instantly, and when the taste of the donut filled your mouth, your eyes lit up.

"Holy hell," you whispered, your mouth full. "Steven, I'll be right back," you stated, running out of the store. You ran to your house next door, grabbing your wallet. You quickly returned to the shop, pulling out $10 from your wallet and handing it to Sadie. "However many glazed donuts that will buy me," you spoke, your eyes seeming to sparkle. She put the number of donuts in a bag and handed you your change. "Steven, I'm going home to spend some time with my new children. Bye," you spoke, staring at the bag.

"Okay, bye, (Y/N)!" Steven exclaimed, waving.

....

"Who was that?"
